3.5 AMP Motor Delivers 25,000 RPM
The GD0601 is engineered with a Makita-built industrial motor that delivers 25,000 rpm. The motor is housed with front and rear air vents to run cooler under continuous use, extending the life of the grinder. The GD0601 includes an AC/DC switch for use with alternative power sources.

Motor Protection Features for Longer Tool Life
To protect the motor from debris, the grinder is built with a labyrinth construction that seals the motor and bearings by creating a complex set of channels, extending the life of the tool. In addition, the armature is sealed by a protective zig-zag varnish which prevents contamination by creating a barrier under rotation.

Comfort and Ergonomics
Makita has engineered comfort and ergonomics into the grinder for professional use all day long. The slide-switch is positioned on the small circumference barrel grip for improved handling and operation. The grinder has solid aluminum housing with a stepped-neck design, and is protected by a removable rubber boot. The front and rear air vents are engineered to keep the motor cool and blow debris away from the user for improved visibility.

Versatile Design for a Range of Applications
The GD0601 is built for a range of applications including pipe fittings and small-scale grinding. It is ideal for welders, plumbers, ship builders, automotive, HVAC, and more. The GD0601 is just another example of Makita's commitment to innovative technology and best-in-class engineering.

After seven years the plastic housing at the tip of my Makita Die Grinder broke so it was time for an upgrade. I use the grinder with a cut off wheel for cuts too small to fit into a saw and for deburring welds. This model is the designated replacement and is much larger and heavier. Some of this weight is due to replacing plastic with metal, and some to the heavy rubber shock absorbing material.

I was initially taken aback by the weight but after using it for a few weeks the improvements are worth the difference in weight. The rubber material absorbs a lot of the vibration and the weight is well balanced. The old model had the switch at the rear and it was impossible to turn it on or off wearing gloves whereas the switch on this model is very handy and easy to use with gloves. Well worth 4 stars.

Strong massive design fits in your hands with confidence. Powerful tool with room to spare on torque. Will match or beat any air powered tool on the market. Would recommend to anyone , professional or amateur

Unless you have a massive compressor, don't buy an air driven die grinder, get one of these. After many years of use and abuse, my Craftman D.G. finally bit the dust. I tried an air driven one, but a 33 gallon compressor can't keep up. So far the Makita has worked great - very strong - doesn't bog. I would have given it 5 stars, but I want to see how long it lasts. Even if I have to buy one every 2 years, it's a hell of a lot better and faster than waiting for the compressor to catch up!

Good tool. More affordable than most of the electric die grinders on the market. Lightweight. Downside is the single speed option - either on or off. Variable speed would have been nice. Other than that, good tool.

Bought this to cut out sheet metal of a car I am restoring. Works fantastic for what I bought it for. It has plenty of power and I am sure I will find more uses for it as my project continues.

This is a great tool. I'm porting and polishing engine heads for a high performance engine and have to use the grinder for long periods at a time. It gets a little warm over a long period of time with it turned on and working. It has great power and easy to handle. It is exactly what is needed for this job. The tool is high quality and works well.

I have both models of this grinder. The one with the bigger non-locking trigger (GD0600), I have had for a couple years and it is has been great. I am a "dewalt" guy buy default but that one outlasted two other similar dewalt grinders that we had. I decided to try this one with the "locking" trigger (GD0601) and the grinder still works great but the trigger doesn't. Randomly now, we have to push in really hard when sliding the trigger up or it doesn't work. I would recommend spending a little more and going with the other trigger style for sure.

update: I can no longer get the trigger to slide on. I took the bottom cover off and the switch inside works still but the plastic arm that goes down from the trigger doesn't push the switch up far enough. I'm guessing over time it starts to stretch or give some. Either way I would hands down recommend the very similar Makita GD0600 model. I was able to ship this in and get it repaired under warranty since it was only a couple months ago, but because of the nature of the failure I would suspect it'll happen again.

We have purchased other brands of die grinders, they are not even close to this Mikita. This grinder runs quiet and smooth, with no vibration. I cannot say enough good words for this tool. Once again we find Mikita outworks, outlast, with a comfort of use we do not find in other tools.

We are a shop with in excess of 100 tools in operation, of all brands, for myself, its always a pleasure to pickup and use a Mikita tool.
Dave,
