3.5 AMP Motor Delivers 25,000 RPM
The GD0601 is engineered with a Makita-built industrial motor that delivers 25,000 rpm. The motor is housed with front and rear air vents to run cooler under continuous use, extending the life of the grinder. The GD0601 includes an AC/DC switch for use with alternative power sources.

Motor Protection Features for Longer Tool Life
To protect the motor from debris, the grinder is built with a labyrinth construction that seals the motor and bearings by creating a complex set of channels, extending the life of the tool. In addition, the armature is sealed by a protective zig-zag varnish which prevents contamination by creating a barrier under rotation.

Comfort and Ergonomics
Makita has engineered comfort and ergonomics into the grinder for professional use all day long. The slide-switch is positioned on the small circumference barrel grip for improved handling and operation. After seven years the plastic housing at the tip of my Makita Die Grinder broke so it was time for an upgrade. I use the grinder with a cut off wheel for cuts too small to fit into a saw and for deburring welds. This model is the designated replacement and is much larger and heavier. Some of this weight is due to replacing plastic with metal, and some to the heavy rubber shock absorbing material.

I was initially taken aback by the weight but after using it for a few weeks the improvements are worth the difference in weight. The rubber material absorbs a lot of the vibration and the weight is well balanced. The old model had the switch at the rear and it was impossible to turn it on or off wearing gloves whereas the switch on this model is very handy and easy to use with gloves. Well worth 4 stars.

Bought this to cut out sheet metal of a car I am restoring. Works fantastic for what I bought it for. It has plenty of power and I am sure I will find more uses for it as my project continues.
