After seven years the plastic housing at the tip of my Makita Die Grinder broke so it was time for an upgrade. I use the grinder with a cut off wheel for cuts too small to fit into a saw and for deburring welds. This model is the designated replacement and is much larger and heavier. Some of this weight is due to replacing plastic with metal, and some to the heavy rubber shock absorbing material.
I was initially taken aback by the weight but after using it for a few weeks the improvements are worth the difference in weight. The rubber material absorbs a lot of the vibration and the weight is well balanced. The old model had the switch at the rear and it was impossible to turn it on or off wearing gloves whereas the switch on this model is very handy and easy to use with gloves. Well worth 4 stars.

Strong massive design fits in your hands with confidence. Powerful tool with room to spare on torque. Will match or beat any air powered tool on the market. Would recommend to anyone , professional or amateur

Bought this to cut out sheet metal of a car I am restoring. Works fantastic for what I bought it for. It has plenty of power and I am sure I will find more uses for it as my project continues.

I bought this because I had insufficient air to power my pneumatic die grinder. It is much larger and heavier than I expected and running at 15K RPM, it was much too fast for my application. I used my router speed controller and slowed the unit down to the speed I needed (approx. 4000) which worked OK, but, the unit became quite hot and I had to stop frequently to allow it to cool. I have found no other product that meets my requirements so I guess this is the best option. I would like to see a smaller less powerful electric die grinder with a 1/4" collet, sized like a pneumatic die grinder, but, haven't been able to find anything other than Dremel type device.

I purchased this for an unusual purpose... to mount on an automatic facer, and it is performing very well so far... It has the necessary power to grind even when a decent amount of pressure is applied. Only time will tell how it performs in the long run... it depends on how the bearings in the casing hold up to the pressure, but hopefully they will be easy to change if it comes to that, and it looks like they should be. But in the short term it is performing very well.

Better than Air,

Unless you have a massive compressor, don't buy an air driven die grinder, get one of these. After many years of use and abuse, my Craftman D.G. finally bit the dust. I tried an air driven one, but a 33 gallon compressor can't keep up. So far the Makita has worked great - very strong - doesn't bog. I would have given it 5 stars, but I want to see how long it lasts. Even if I have to buy one every 2 years, it's a hell of a lot better and faster than waiting for the compressor to catch up!

He told me this is what he wanted and was happy to get it. He hasn't used it yet, however.
