Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Sometimes you need to hammer, sometimes you don’t. This drill can be set for rotation only, or rotation with hammering. This 5-AMP, 3.7-pound tool has a superior power-to-weight ratio for quick drilling and easy handling. Its comfy, ergonomic design means the tool hammers the hardware, not your wrists. With a large trigger switch it’s easy on your trigger finger, too. It also features a recessed lock-on button for extended use, and an idling mechanism that prevents hammering while not in operation. You won’t have to reach for the reversing switch cause it’s right there in finger’s reach. The side handle swivels 360° for convenient operation. A keyless chuck means fast bit installation. Your purchase includes the keyless chuck, a depth gauge, and a sturdy plastic tool case.

This review is from: Makita HP1501K 9/16-Inch Hammer Drill, Variable Speed, Reversible (Tools & Home Improvement)
This drill has a great power to weight ratio, is well balanced and easily switches between hammer and regular drill modes. A real pleasure to use.

I've been using this drill for four months and find that I happily plug in an extension cord and use it rather than mess with cordless drills that don't even come close to matching its power.

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok for light duty, April 17, 2005
This review is from: Makita HP1501K 9/16-Inch Hammer Drill, Variable Speed, Reversible (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this drill a year ago. For 1/2" holes it works well. The hammer drill part works good also. I have had no problems with the chuck. There is not enough power for using hole saws. The lack of power is suprising because the amperage is high for a drill this size.

I finally burned this drill out. I don't know how Makita does it, but their drills always outperform the drills one step above them. This is a lightweight hammer drill and does great as such. The case it comes in has a problem with the latches breaking off, but for the money you can't do much better.
