Makita Motor Advantage
Consistent with the rest of Makita's rotary hammer line-up, the HR2475 is engineered with the Makita Motor Advantage. This includes field core interlocking steel laminations, dual ball bearing armature, and more copper commutator bars. These features deliver the most efficient transfer of energy for more power and longer tool life.
More Efficient Work
Additional performance features include a torque limiting clutch engineered to prevent gear damage by automatically disengaging gears if the bit binds. The sequential impact timing feature delivers timed hammering during rotation to minimize overlapping bit impacts, resulting in up to 50 percent faster drilling.
Comfort and Ease of Use
Comfort and ease-of-use features include an ergonomic and well-balanced design with a rubberized D-handle comfort grip and a soft grip side handle. Additional features include a one-touch sliding chuck for easy bit changes, a recessed lock-on button for continuous use, and a large trigger switch. The multiple chisel positioning allows the bit to be set at 40 different positions to align with the application. The extended life brushes are longer for less downtime and more work between service intervals.
Versatile Design for a Range of Applications
The HR2475 is a versatile and hard-hitting rotary hammer for masons, remodelers, electricians, maintenance crews, and general contractors seeking a best-in-class 1-inch rotary hammer. The HR2475 is just another example of Makita's commitment to innovative technology and best-in-class engineering.

Buy This NOW,
By Tom o'Bedlam (Vermont) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Makita HR2475X2 1-Inch Rotary Hammer (includes free GA4530 4-1/2-Inch Grinder) (Tools & Home Improvement)
If you are now using a pistol grip hammer drill, or thinking of buying one, STOP NOW. Drilling in stone or concrete with this drill is like a hot knife through butter. Plus it's really light in weight. Way faster than any pistol grip drill I have used (including DeWalt, Makita and Bosch.) This is what you want for Tapcons and anchor bolts. Also great for chipping and chiseling - there are many styles of SDS chisels available, and the tool's light weight makes it easy. And you always need another grinder, and this Makita is way better than that $9 Harbor Freight grinder you have been using. Put a diamond blade or cup on it and get to work!

This review is from: Makita HR2475X2 1-Inch Rotary Hammer (includes free GA4530 4-1/2-Inch Grinder) (Tools & Home Improvement)
I needed a tool to repair and maintain concrete and brick structures around my home. I checked the option of renting a light duty jack hammer/drill combo but these were in the range of $50 to $125/day from either Home Depot or local tool rental outfits. I did some looking around and found a few tools that offers combination drill and hammer action with "hammer only" setting . Of the choices, I found the Makita tool to be well built and offered the lowest cost from Amazon. As a bonus the combo package was very attractive with a useful angle grinder thrown in for a small increase over the drill only cost. I had no prior experience with such a tool but as an avid DYI'er thought could could be worth the investment to tackle many projects using this tool.
I have summarized the pros and cons of the rotary hammer below. Pros: Well made and feels solid as all Makita tools I own although this one is made in China. Runs very quite for a power hammer and designed to idle until the tool is engaged on the work surface. This allows to minimize fatigue from vibration when used in the "Hammer only" mode. The tool feels very ergonomic and comfortable to hold while working at different angles and positions. There is the option to set the chisel tool at any angle and lock it which allows a lot of flexibility and convenience in engaging the tool on the work surface. The quick chuck offers easy insert and removal of the tools designed for SDS chucks. Using a Dewalt 1.5" SDS chisel, I was able to strip tough mortar coating off the 5 raisers of my front steps in less than 4 hours which otherwise would have been a very tough job not to mention taken me most of all day with a chisel and a hammer. The tool worked without a flaw nonstop throughout the entire time with some comfort breaks of course. Cons: I can't find any serious negatives (yet) but wanted to mention that the tool gets very hot in use especially near the front behind the chuck. Good thing I was wearing good quality work gloves otherwise one could get serious burns if not careful with while doing heavy duty work. Also, any tool attachment (chisel in my case) needs to be well lubricated before inserting into the chuck with a good quality grease to reduce the friction as well as preserve the life of the cutting tool itself. Additionally the side handle was very hard to remove once the front gets hot as it tends to bind due to the nature of the plastic material of construction. I applied some silicone grease (do not use ordinary grease) to avoid binding which greatly helped removal for reconfiguration in different positions for ease of holding during use of this tool. The bottom line is that this tool paid back my investment in one project and I feel that it will give me many years of good service for tough jobs where the combination of functionality, power and small size is ideal for DYI jobs around my home.

Superstar!,
This review is from: Makita HR2475X2 1-Inch Rotary Hammer (includes free GA4530 4-1/2-Inch Grinder) (Tools & Home Improvement)
I've been using this for 4 years now and the hammer gets power into tight spots. I've drilled 5/8" x 22" into concrete, like butter. I've also used it for tapcons. I don't think the power to weight ratio can be beat. One of my favorite tools! The grinder is a simple one speed unit, but powers through steel with a thin kerf hilti blade.
