Product Description

Amazon.com Review

This Makita 2-horsepower oilless compressor is a serious tool that lends itself to operating in a variety of conditions with little maintenance. Oil-free operation means no daily oil checks, no oil changes, and no worrying about making sure it's placed on a perfectly level surface before going to work.

We like this tool's simple yet rugged construction. Dual air tanks hold 8.3 cfm at 40 psi, and they are situated in a way that seems to help the tool maintain steady balance. Along with the tanks, the pump, motor, on/off switch, air regulator, and gauges are encased in a roll cage to withstand the hard knocks job sites can deliver. The well-balanced motor is made of lightweight aluminum that dissipates heat quickly and efficiently. The compressor boasts a quick nine-second recovery time, which is the time the motor must run to fully recharge the air supply in the tanks. In other words, it's plenty fast enough to nail sheathing without letting up. If you're searching for an easily transportable, dependable source of air for pneumatic tools, this could be your saving breath. --Justin Paul

From Hanley-Wood's Tools of the Trade

This heavy compressor is a real workhorse, with a recovery time of about 13 seconds. That speed is an end result of the 3,450 rpm the unit turns, which also makes it a little noisy in a closed-in building. The pump, motor, switch, and gauges are all well-protected with a roll cage. The only thing exposed is the drain valve, but this is common on hand-carry units.Copyright Hanley-Wood, LLC

4.0 out of 5 stars Only minor criticisms, October 17, 2000

This review is from: Makita MAC2200 2 HP Oil-less Air Compressor (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this compressor for some fairly goofy reasons. I wanted a compressor with a cage, oil-less, side stacked tanks, and preferably some sort of lined cylinders. The last reason was because the Craftsman compressor that I had ( 220v 6hp/33gal ) the tank walls surface rusted and the air/water separator ( thank goodness I had one ) would eventually turn rusty red. The Makita had all of those, especially the aluminum tanks. The Makita is not all that light, but it is pretty well balanced, and compared to my Craftsman ( which isnt really fair because of the motor size ) it is much more quiet, this unit is nicely finished and recovers very quickly - usually runs about 10 seconds after I realize it is running again. My gripes are that the front of the rubber handle slips around just a bit when carrying, and the regulator piping needs to be secured more adequately which seems to be why some manufacturers are moving towards the control panel setup. I like that idea, but trying to accomodate an inline filter is more of a problem, unless there is room behind the panel( doubtful ). The only other complaint which is really more of a recommendation is that the coupler Makita provides is awful. Order the Milton coupler and save your fingers. So far, so good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Do It Yourselfer's Compressor, June 20, 2000

This is a compressor for the serious Do-It-Yourselfer. Bought one several months ago and have used it for some remodeling projects. It's oil-less, meaning low maintenance, but requires a dedicated electrical source. I ran the Porter Cable 350 framing nailer, Senco SFN40 finish nailer, and a Porter Cable brad nailer, and haven't had any problems yet. The protective cage works well and is well balanced. It is a bit on the heavy side, and it's loud, so wear ear plugs if you're running it in an enclosed area.

ive owned this compressor for 2 years now, using it for work in the constuction industry and it never let me down. i run multiple framing nailers, finish nailers and pin nailers, whatever the job requires. ive used a drywall texture hopper on it from time to time. it has serious power. no matter what you purchase this compressor for it will be worth the money. its alittle heavy and alittle loud, but thats telling you your not buying a toy.
