Makita 784827-A Quad-Driver 4-Piece Reversible and Self-Centering Pre-Drill, Drive and Countersink Set

This tool is invaluable when used for setting hinges! Hold the hinge in place, push the drill against it and know that it's centered in the hole. Works just like a Vix bit only you can pop it out the holder, flip it, put it back in the holder and voila', now you've got a driver to power in the screw. I've gone through three sets as they tend to grow feet and walk away. :(

My latest one has lasted three years. The housing eventually cracks at the corners where the bit slides through. I ended up just buying single piece set to replace the holder. The springs on the vix part (that push against the retactable head) have held up and have not failed. I have replaced all of the drill bits and screw tips countless times. I have not yet seen a better setup than this.

This tool is very versitable and convienent. It is a must for jobs requiring predrill(not countersink). The 4 piece set will do most jobs. The only concern I have with this product is the availability of it. I waited 4+ weeks for it to arrive. Also I have not been able to locate any replacement parts in any of my local stores. This tool is made very well and seems to be able to stand daily use in the construction field.

I have been using these self centering, reversable drill/driver little jewels for years. They have been made by different manufacturers over the years including Craftsman and I think DeWalt. I'm a Locksmith and use them CONSTANTLY for latch, bolt and strike plates, hinges and many other lock hardware applications. I read a review that speaks of a little wobble. I found that is normal and actually the little bit of "loosness" is good for functionality. It has NO effect on the function of the tools.They are all very well built and you get your moneys worth out of them. I just ordered two new sets for my tool boxes. The old ones are still working fine although showing definite battle scars and normal W&T. I have lost a few somehow but have yet to wear any out....and I use them on both hard and soft woood and even thing metal.I just want to make sure I have a couple of "back-ups" in case like a lot of other good things, the decision is made not to make them any more....or one gets broken or damaged. I have not used the "MAKITA" brand, but I'm sure they are well made. These are the first I have seen in a set with the very small screwdriver bit. Again...a FANTASTIC product.

I have owned this product for many years and find it the most valuable tool in my toolbox. However it is impossible
to find replacement drill bits. This is very frustrating. I have ordered them many times, but they have all been for
the quad driver countersink kit. The flat side on the bit does not extend all the way to the end of the shank. If anyone
knows of a source for these bits. I'd really like to know.

Having seen a carpenter friend of mine using this tool I decided to buy one myself. Installing cupboard doors was quick with minimum effort. It really saves a lot of time.

Speeds up your work in superb way. . Great for installing hinges or anything you want to center the hole in. It only takes a second to flip the cartridge and drive the screw. The only problem is that it's kind of expensive and they give your three different sized bits. The problem with the different sized bits is that each one comes with a different sized philips head. Most everything I drive is a #2 size - it would have been nice to keep that consistent and change just the drill bit. Because of this, two of the three bits will likely go unused.

This tool is such a slick innovation that it really should be standard equipment on power driver/drills. You just flip the tip to drill or drive. The auto-centering feature on hinge holes is brilliant, plus the spring loaded sheath works to keep your drill bit in place in soft wood with raised grain. The sheath tip bites the wood a little and keeps the bit from dancing away into the softer troughs or the wood.

The only complaint I have is that the shaft that holds the bit/driver and sheath has an ever-so-slight wobble to it when spinning freely in the air. Oddly enough, it seems to function perfectly regardless of the wobble. It would appear that the wobble is nullified once pressure is applied when drilling/driving. It may simply be gravity pulling at the apparatus when it isn't loaded with the pressure of the task.

This set takes care of all my precision drilling and driving needs - great when doing locksets and hinges - makes for a super quick swap from drill to driver without looking for tools...
