Precision Settings and Features for Quality Cuts
The saw has a bevel capability of -1 degree to 48 degrees with positive stops at 22.5 degrees and 45 degrees. The saw delivers precise cutting, as the position of the blade enters the material on the same cutting line whether cutting straight or bevel. In addition, the saw has close-to-wall cutting capability (11/16 inch) for expanded cutting applications. The built-in depth stop allows a preliminary cut of 1/16 inch to be performed before the entire material is cut, creating clean and splinter-free cutting.

I am a professional cabinet-maker, furniture-maker, and architectural millworker. I own a Festool T55 that is about 4 years old now. I love the Festool but it always lacked power. I was going to replace it with the larger model, the T75, but hesitated because of the weight issue. The T75 is very heavy to pick up and use over and over again all day long. Then I saw the Makita and decided to give it a try. It is smoother than the Festool, has more power, and has a nicer feel to it. It also uses the Festool track guides and vacuum perfectly. The only cons that I see with the Makita are one that the cord is too short and two that the vacuum port swivels too easily. Neither would stop me from purchasing another. I like the feel, power, and the adjustments better than the Festool. Now if they would just come out with competition to the Kapex (Festool's miter saw at $1300).

I absolutely loved this saw. We recently got to test The Festool, Dewalt, and this Makita. I have to say I liked this one the best. It had the most power. Also has a dog that will keep the saw attached to the Track during bevel cuts. That is a huge plus. Also the bevel scale was more versitile. Dont be discouraged that it doesnt have a "riving knife" Unless your taking down hardwood stock...which I doubt most of you will..then the knife is pointless. Even so, because there is no fence for the material to pinch on the blade like on a table saw...There really is no need for the knife. Dont let that be the stumbling issue.

I only gave it 4 out of 5 stars...Because the cord is a bit short. and I wish the dust port didnt swived as much. But out of the three saws...I would rate them like this:

1: Makita
2: Festool
3: Dewalt

they all have pros and cons..but this little saw was really the best one in my opinion.

Have had the Makita Plunge Saw for about 3 months and am constantly impressed with it. I use it primarily to break down sheet goods but it is equally good at ripping long work peices that would be difficult to run through my table saw because of my small shop. The unique 1/8" scoring cut leaves a perfect edge on plywood with out splitting or tearing. The guide rail is a must. I attach a shop vac and there is very little saw dust to clean up when I am done. Compared to the price of other rail plunge saws the Makita makes it a no-brainer.
