Fair, but not perfect.,

This review is from: Makita T-00169 28-Piece Impact Driver Set (Tools & Home Improvement)
The set is pretty much ok, with one major complaint: The "star drive" bit that comes with the set is a T-20. I think most everyone knows that most wood type screws are made for the T-25 star drive bit. The T-20 bit is useless to me.

This is a small, basic set of the most commonly used sizes of drivers. The drivers themselves seem fine - they seem to be made of a nice hard steel, and I haven't had any trouble with unusual wear. But the clamshell case is very disappointing - its just cheap plastic that folds over, with a flimsy strip of plastic acting as the hinge. After being opened and closed a few times, the plastic hinge already seems to getting stressed; I fear that it will wear out and break long before the drivers inside do. The snap closure is not particularly secure either. (Incidentally, if anyone cares, although the picture on Amazon makes it look like the case is black, the outside of it is actually the typical Makita turquoise color, with a black interior.)
To me, the case is a very important part of a set of drill or driver bits. I have owned sets before in flimsy cases like this, and found it very frustrating when the case itself broke before the bits did, leaving me with the choice of either trying to organize the bits some other way, or having to buy a new set because of the case. Other companies selling similar driver sets (Milwaukee, De Walt, Irwin, etc.) put them in a case made of a heavier gauge of plastic, with a sturdier hinge. I expected better from Makita. I like Makita's drills, but I think for the bits and drivers, another company may be a better choice.

Good but not Great,

This review is from: Makita T-00169 28-Piece Impact Driver Set (Tools & Home Improvement)
Makita is a solid brand which I use professionally on a daily basis. It was time to upgrade my bits and organize them and this kit came up. I like the compact organization of the various bits.
I DO NOT like how CHEAP the case is. The latch is just cheap, soft plastic that will eventually break and you will be left with an open case. It will not last very long. The DeWalt impact driver bits are supposed to be superior to these. Sometimes the cheapest option turns out to be the most expensive one.
