Book Description

Stonewall Inn Book/Photographer Series June 15, 1997
In this latest collection, internationally famous photographer Christopher Makos brings his keen eye and considerable talents to bear upon the male nude. Ranging from formal compositions and head shots to the more traditional male nude, Makos displays the full range of one of the seminal figures in the modern art world. True to his boldly graphic photojournalistic style, Makos is that rarest of items...a truly original look at the male form.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Christopher Makos, once identified by Andy Warhol as "the most modern photographer in America," offers up a tasty collection of pretty boys in his fourth collection of pictures. His models are, as Bruce Hainley writes in the introduction, "really into being out of it," and it's not always clear from the expressions on his subjects' faces whether they're way into themselves or oblivious to everything around them while they hone their bodies. It's that attractive vacuity that Makos captures so effectively in his stark compositions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makos's influence of Warhol in his own naturalistic style., July 9, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Makos: A Stonewall Inn Book (Stonewall Inn Book/Photographer Series) (Hardcover)
Capturing the pure beauty of the male body in its perfection and glory is not enough for Makos. Using the influence of his close personal friend, Andy Warhol, he replicates the body over and over seeming to worship the divinity in which the human body can achieve. However, these images are brought together in a naturalistic manner. Not in a perfect straight line but in organic forms almost seeming to remind us of our own natural state. For those of you who want to see a celebration of the body with a combination of achieved art this book is for you. I highly recommend this book for its original approach to capturing the human body

4.0 out of 5 stars MAKO'S MANY MEN!, June 7, 2000
This review is from: Makos: A Stonewall Inn Book (Stonewall Inn Book/Photographer Series) (Hardcover)
Mako's presents us with his latest collection of handsome young men in this Stonewall Inn Pocket size edition book. There are 48 photos of young, attractive men covering a wide range of head shots, formal compositions, and in your face nudes. Mako's has a keen eye and talent for bringing the stark reality of the male nude in natural poses to his audience. It makes you wonder what these guys are really like or would that destroy the fantasy. Just look at the facial expressions.

Stonewall put out a series of these small pocket size books by many photographers. A great idea, and "Makos" is one of the best in the series and I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars NOTES FOR THE COLLECTOR OF MALE EROTICA, May 2, 2000
This review is from: Makos: A Stonewall Inn Book (Stonewall Inn Book/Photographer Series) (Hardcover)
Small photobook by Christopher Makos, can easily fit in your back pocket. 48 black and white photographs of men and each one is OUTSTANDING. Makos art pays close attention to detail, every line and curve, and Makos reveals the truly living art the male form can be. Makos' remarkable work pays homage to male beauty. Highly recommended for the collector.
