This is a useful dictionary that covers more words than you are likely to use in normal situations. Malaysians tell me that some of the translations seem to be to Indonesian Bahasa, not the standard Bahasa Melayu. A few English translations are to obsolete Malay words. Bahasa Melayu is a living language and may be changing rapidly. This dictionary was revised in 1991. The spelling of Malay words was standardized in 1996 by the Malaysian ministry. I have almost worn out my copy, but I would not buy another unless it were updated. |
