Book Description

John Hilley provides a theoretically informed and insightful analysis of the Mahathir project. He examines how Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamed has translated the basis of the ruling bloc's legitimacy from coercive domination and ethnic card-playing into a consensual form of hegemonic support. Hilley looks at his strides in using developmentalist strategies, a language of post-ethnic nationalism, and the prospect of expanding social rewards.

2.0 out of 5 stars 2 Star for efforts spent, February 22, 2004
This review is from: Malaysia: Mahathirism, Hegemony and the New Opposition (Politics in Contemporary Asia) (Paperback)
The author probably has done a lot of research in terms of facts, but the interpretations of facts are often flawed. I don't think he truly understands Malaysian culture or some Asian values. His views are often biased, do not try to view it from a Malaysian perspective.
