i ordered this tool because i was covering a shed with sheet metal (corrogated) and had many odd pieces to cut. i was also cutting flashing pieces from some old ductwork to use around windows and doors. the Malco tool did this well enough.

I purchased this to cut templates about the size of a dinner mat out of the sides of 18-wheeler trailers (1/8" aluminum). Given the other reviews cutting steel, I was expecting good things. However, my experience was mixed.

I found it could cut the aluminum quickly but only at one magical angle and with significant forward force applied. It was challenging to find/maintain the magic angle and supply sufficient forward force while standing on a ladder.

I noticed that air-powered shears have two cutting blades. With two blades, the torque applied to each edge of the cut is balanced. These single blade shears often left the edges stressed with waves and bending.

My 15.4V Panasonic drill worked but 18V might have been better.

All in all, it is very affordable and better than hand shears. I don't regret owning it, but it has limitations.

3.0 out of 5 stars Won't cut 5V Crimp, February 23, 2006
This review is from: Malco TS1 Turbo Shear 20 Gauge Capacity Sheet Metal Cutting Attachment for 3/8-Inch Drills (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this for cutting 5V crimp roofing. It does great on flat panels but can't make it over the crimps. Oh well.

it does slightly mar one side of the cut and tends to leave that edge a bit wavy as well. also, it takes a bit of practice to choose the correct blade angle as you cut up and down the corrogations when crosscutting -- i soon developed a movement pattern and learned to go slower. but these shortcomings didn't matter in my application because the material was used tin off an older barn and used ducting. for my money, this was a very good buy. the tool is very high quality and will last years for my purposes.
i was using it with a makita 18v battery drill/driver and that combination works fine.

There isn't a product on the market more effective for the money than this. One often finds himself without power having to rely only on your snips. Anyone who has had to cut dowm a large piece of duct work or cut a big take-off into 22ga. or heavier with snips knows about the burning forearms. If you have these situations to deal with, don't wait, I promise it's the best $40 you'll ever spend.

A robust and inexpensive alternate to buying a power shear. I didn't want to spend upwards of $100 and add another corded tool to an already overcrowded tool chest. The Turboshear was a great choice. It's robust and compact, and it made short work of the 150' or so of 22g. steel cuts for my current sculpture commission. The only problem I noted was that it requires two hands to operate, unlike a powered shear. Still, a great option for adding functions to tools you already own.

Malco TS1 Turbo Shear 20 Gauge Capacity Sheet Metal Cutting Attachment for 3/8-Inch Drills

I purchased this for my dad, for a father's day gift. I must admit that he's been in the heating and air-conditioning business for over 25years and all the stress on fatigue on my dad's hands from manual labor has been tough on him.

This took is pretty simple to use, you just get a drill electric or battery operated and just hook the sucker up. Take a screwdriver hammer a hole in so you can get the shear lips inside the hole and pull the trigger on your drill! It cut's thought most sheet metal type materials with ease, but the only difficult thing this won't do is sharp 90 degree turns so beware of that. On straight cuts this does wonders!

If you are in the industry I would say this is a no brainer :)

9/10 = rating!

4.0 out of 5 stars User friendly, May 27, 2009
This review is from: Malco TS1 Turbo Shear 20 Gauge Capacity Sheet Metal Cutting Attachment for 3/8-Inch Drills (Tools & Home Improvement)
This cutter works as good or better than most electric type cutters I have purchaced. One side of the cut scars the metal though, which is ok because I only use it for cuts in which the metal will be covered by trim pieces. It also is fairly easy over high ribs partly because you can rotate your drill left or right. Well worth the price

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great on level cuts, September 4, 2007
This review is from: Malco TS1 Turbo Shear 20 Gauge Capacity Sheet Metal Cutting Attachment for 3/8-Inch Drills (Tools & Home Improvement)
This tool works super when cutting flat surfaces but its more challenging if cutting across ribbed steel like roof panels. Then you need a fair amount of force applied at the proper angle. But it's a heck of lot better than using manual nips.

This tool is great for cutting sheet metal without adding another expensive dedicated tool to your collection. These shears cut through sheet metal like a hot knife through butter.

I had a small sheet metal project that required shears. I couldn't find any in town to rent and couldn't justify buying a dedicated tool since I had no future sheet metal plans.

I was concerned about prior reviews' mention of a 'good' and a 'bad' side of the cut. However, if you float both sides of the metal (the drill + attachment require two hands to operate, so it's best to have multiple people), the 'bad' side doesn't get nicked and wavy. I had to experiment a bit.

I do wish there was a way to lock it in position to the drill so it could be used one-handed, but it looks like Malco makes a drill clamp assembly for that. All in all, this is a great money-saving, space-efficient way to have electric sheet metal shears.

I was extremely pleased that I purchased this tool. I had a metal roof put on my home and there was enough scrap pieces left that I was able to cut the pieces and use for my shed roof. If I didn't have this tool my hands would have fallen off. The tool for the price worked great. After doing an initial test cut you get a feel for how to use the tool to manage going over the ribs of the metal.
