I have used "the beast" to remove several roofs, some with 3 layers of shingles. It stands up to heavy use and does a great job pulling nails and lifting the roofing. The 3-position pitch adjustment is a nice feature, but the caps come off the spring-held rod in the position adjustment which in turn allows the rod to slip out of position. This is a minor headache which needs a redesign. Overall, I think this is the best tool out there for removing old roofing.

The tool was terrific... until all the nuts came loose and fell off and the adjustment pin kept falling out. After I replaced the standard nuts with inexpensive nylon locking nuts and duct tape the pin into place ( I have since found that the pin falls out becasue the internal spring was not attached. I can fix this and forget the tape.), the beast lived up to it's name. My partner used a traditional roof rake. He couldn't keep up with me. The beast easily removed nails, so I didn't have to go back and remove nails left after stripping.

Never having stripped a roof before, I bought 2 "Beasts" at Amazon and one "Brand X" shingle remover off the shelf at the local hardware store to make sure I'd have a tool that actually worked well. The difference in the tools was AMAZING. The Beast made the awful, tough job of shingle stripping almost fun. This thing effortlessly EATS shingles and nails like I never imagined a tool could! The other, cheaper tool was an exercise in futility and frustration. It took a LOT more energy and effort to use than the Beast, and removed a lot less shingles in more time. After a very short period, the guys helping me would ONLY help if they could use a "Beast". I was skeptical that a tools design could make so much difference, but the claims are true. BUY IT!!

Definitely the best shingle remover on the market. Be prepared to replace the
nuts on the bolts that hold the shovel to the handle with locking ones because the original ones will vibrate loose.

I have used this tool on several roofs and was looking on line to buy another one. This tool more than pays for itself the first time you use it. I have ripped many roofs off in my day with flat shovels, pry bars and the like and the labor you save with this tool is amazing. What the other reviews did not mention is that this tool pulls staples even better that nails. It has proven to be very durable for me and if you use this tool on a tear off jog you won't do another roof without it! Worth every penny can't wait to get another one! This is definitely well worth the money. I recently took on the task of replacing the shingles on our house and I decided that since I was doing this project entirely by myself I was going to get the tools to make it as easy and quick of a project as possible. This tool works awesome. Not only at removing the shingles but it is far better than any cats paw or other nail removing tool at pulling the nails. It is a beautiful design in that the nail pulling teeth not only VERY easily pull the nails but hold them so that you can drop them into a bucket rather than having them all fall to the ground. Even though I had a tarp on the ground to catch all the old shingles I much preferred capturing most of the nails so that they would not later present a hazard to people and tires! The Beast is a very well built tool and the adjustable head proved useful when stripping shingles on different pitch roofs or when stripping from above the shingles rather than below. Many thanks to all the other Amazon customers that reviewed this product that convinced me to go with it...their positive reviews were dead nuts accurate. Thanks also to Malco for making an excellent tool.

I am a proffesional roofer and after reading the great reviews i decided to get one of these and see how nice it actually was. Very dissapointing the only + is that it can pull nails which is way slower than useing your hammer. There is about 5 guys total that work with me and this is the only fork that is left in the trailor everyday. The ProShingle D grip fiberglass fork seems to work better, atleast at pulling nails. If you know what your doing the good old fashion fork in my opinion is the way to go. Costs about $10 and will last years, compared to $65 and it just sits in the trailor.

I bought my Malco "Beast" #SB48AE shingle removing tool from Amazon-dot-com in 2007, in preparation for a challenging re-roofing project on a steep-sloped roof I was about to do that year. It was delivered early and I put it to work right away. The Beast will feel heavy at first, but I use mine one-handed on steep slopes (I'm a tough Old Guy!), holding onto the shaft of the handle with my right hand and using the other hand to do the shingle lifting and slinging. For low-slope work, I use two hands, with one hand holding the spade-grip and the other holding onto the shaft, shovel-style. The weight is an advantage. I am able to strip two (2) courses at a time, going across the width of the roof and back, not missing any nails either. The adjustment feature for the heads angle is good for when you work in awkward positions. I used the tool again on a similar project in 2009 and again in 2010. The tool only shows slight wear. It is very effective at finding it's way under the shingles and nails and prying the shingles off is very easy. As the tips wear, they get more effective and will allow you to zero-in on a lone missed nailhead laying flat on the sheathing, enabling you to slide the tool easily under it's head and pop it free. This tool exceeded my demanding expectations! I wanted to come back and write this review in appreciation for Amazon and Malco.

The tool also offers some degree of security if you start to slide down the slope of the roof, even when wearing a safety line. You simply invert the tool so that the tips are facing downward on the slope and then slam the tool onto the deck, pushing on the handle. The tips dig in, stopping your slide. You then stabilize yourself and get back to work.

I used The Beast to tear off a 9 square roof. It was two layers of t-locks and a layer of cedar shakes. The Beast took it all off at once. I was very impressed with its performance. I had no need to make any modifications to the tool, it worked great right out of the box. I would recommend this tool to anyone from a homeowner to a professional roofing crew. If you are going to tear off a roof The Beast is worth the extra couple bucks.

I would highly recommend this tool for stripping a roof. It is defintely worth the money! The removal of shingles was much less of a chore than with any other tool I have used in the past, and the design of the stripping tool also makes removal of the nails easy too.
