Absolutely exquisite and impassioned,

I know. You're thinking, "5 star status to a Terrence Blanchard album. Can he be that good? Can he really produce a classic?" Yes. For me, this is a classic work of introspective, quasi-symphonic post-bop. Unfortunately, many folks don't seem to know about this album. I'm not a big Blanchard fan. I don't really know a lot of his stuff. However, you will listen to this album repeatedly. It is deep, introspective, and workman-like. Blanchard was obviously very dedicated, contemplative, and passionate in his creation of this relatively obscure work. On this album, he is the consumate craftsman, composer, and player. Enjoy.

BLANCHARD'S BEST.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Malcolm X Jazz Suite (Audio CD)
This is without a doubt Terence Blanchard's best record. I don't think he's a trumpet player that records particularly well and this is before his days of smearing/ half-valving every second note which became downright painful. The band swings like mad in a really dark mood (mainly minor keys).

Moody and touching,

I bought thic CD in 1995 and was not disappointed. The feel of the music for a sad movie of a great but controversial man was just beautiful. Terence has a warm and sad tone. The music just grows on you. Once you have seen the movie, the music will stay with you. I strongly recommend it.

The Malcolm X Jazz Suite is unique because it coincides with the Malcolm X soundtrack done by Spike Lee's father. Blanchard's is wonderful! If you are a jazz lover and soundtrack collector, get this!
