5.0 out of 5 stars The Middle May 18, 2011
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
At times its like they set up a video camera in our house - the conversations between Frankie, Mike and the kids are often identical to ones we have had at home. Sure, at times Frankie is an irritatingly needy control freak, but The Middle remains a cut above the usual US sitcom, something we can actually relate to. Plus, it's funny.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Middle of Hysterical! April 24, 2011
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This the funniest new series produced in the last 15 years. It is well written and well acted. Even if you don't have kids, you were one at some point and can relate to these characters. Buy it, you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Diamond in Middle America July 7, 2011
I must say I avoided The Middle when it first premiered because I was not a Patricia Heaton fan because of her Raymond years. I first watched The Middle a few weeks after the premier because of my regular show wasn't on that night. I was surprised I really loved the show.

Frankie can get on your nerves but, let's face it, our mother got on our nerves growing up too.

Mike is a typical dad, avoiding conflict when possible.

Mike and Frankie are the typical parents trying to figure out what to do next because what they learned with one kid, doesn't always work with another.

Axl is awesome, the teen that sleeps in and stays up late playing video games, raiding the frig and complaining when asked...well, anything.

Sue is unique, to say the least. I don't think she would actually have survived my house of 3 brothers.

Brick reminds me of "Malcome in the Middle" and the youngest in that family. He is a smart kid and well, not the social butterfly by far, but I get a kick out of him. He is usually smarter than the parents.

I love this Diamond in MIDDLE America. It's hilarious and not always a lesson learned at the end of the show but reminds us, it could be us.

I DVR this show every week now and keep them to watch again and again. I will even DVR the reruns. I will buy season two as I did season one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Family Comedy April 22, 2011
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
As any busy mom can attest, the hilarious misadventures of the Heck family are not far-fetched at all. Each quirky character fits so perfectly, it's difficult to believe they are not a real-life family. I have enjoyed every episode and have re-watched them over and over.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Day the Music Died... December 15, 2008
Ironically, unlike in Don McLean's immortal song "American Pie" in which the music dies, it is in fact the music that killed Malcolm in the Middle. For though season 1 sold enough units to warrant a season 2 release, the cost of music clearances was so prohibitively high that Fox decided to scrap the project.

Music was a big part of the show, and the songwriters and frequently music publishing companies have to be paid up front before any dvd release will be authorized and without the guarantee of how many will sell, studios frequently chalk such clearances up as a bad investment (as has been the case with Parker Lewis Can't Lose, too). In some cases they substitute cheaper tunes instead (see: WKRP in Cincinnati), but in the case of Malcolm, they probably figured the music was such a vital part of the show it couldn't be taken out.

People frequently seem to think that just wanting a show to come out on DVD is all it takes. Unfortunately that is not always enough. R.I.P. Malcolm in the Middle.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'M BEGGING YOU... May 25, 2007
Many health studies show the power of laughter to heal. Malcolm in the Middle invariably brings great and wonderful laughter. It is the most original, the funniest, the most brilliant TV writing and acting ever! It is sheer joy to watch this extraordinary show. When dealing with serious health issues, one seeks out any opportunity to laugh and Malcolm in the Middle never fails. It is the best ever. So, please - PLEASE - make the entire program, all episodes, all seasons, available for sale on DVD. We see so much drivel and drek for sale, yet the brilliant and marvelous Malcolm is never for sale. It is just unbelievable that a company can have people lined up to buy a product yet they won't make it available. Please - sell the Malcolm in the Middle DVDs. This show will go down in TV history as being of legendary status with Dick Van Dyke, Lucy, and other "elite" status comedy that is just a treasure. Please..... make ALL of the Malcolm in the Middle DVDs available for sale. I'm just begging you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Even Funnier Than Season One May 8, 2011
The strongest part of this show is the family, not their jobs, their friends, their relatives and so forth. This season the makers seemed to know this as scenes devoted to Frankie's job or her eccentric aunts shrunk to just about nothing. The focus instead was on the interaction among the two parents and the three kids. The show really soared when this emphasis changed this season.

My favorite is still the youngest kid Brick. He is a real little oddball and we love him for that. My favorite episode this season was when Brick was exiled to the playground and had to find a way back to the safety of the library. Part of his solution was to read various military strategies, such as the maneuvers of General George Patton, to achieve this. This is just the most marvelous episode. I've kept it and will see it again frequently I'm sure.

Patricia Heaton as Frankie is next. She is a very talented comedienne. She is also the one who carries the whole show as she has the most lines and is in most scenes. Perhaps her finest moment was when she decided to devote herself to the royal wedding experience. She ordered souvenir gift items, got a new tv for the event and, in short, completely flipped out over commoner Kate marrying Prince William.

I appreciated Axel more this season. He was sort of the weak link before but now he has morphed into being the reality of living with a high school jock. One episode turned heavily on his smelly socks and Mike, the father's, reaching his limit with finding them everywhere. The two of them went into high conflict over the socks and even higher conflict over the son beating the father's athletic record at the same high school. Mike, the father, is thus pretty good too but he is the straight man to these lunatics.
