5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Fine Grade Formosa Oolong Tea
I am enjoying the lovely flavor of this Oolong tea from Formosa, in my opinion the finest. I read about teas often, and have learned, that any teas that are rolled into little pearls, is always of a finer grade. This tea is rolled into the pearls. It is important to know, that the pearls must be given room to open into their leaves, so take care not to put too much into...

3.0 out of 5 stars Inconsistent, sometimes yummy
I'm on my second bag. I use one heaping teaspoon (or a bit more) per eight oz. With some batches, brewing at 180F for 2-3 min gives 2 good pours, while with others (even different portions of the same bag), gentle brewing yields 4-5 very nice, floral, tasty cups. I now use water that hits the leaves at 180, and brew just long enough for the floral notes to waft over to...

With some batches, brewing at 180F for 2-3 min gives 2 good pours, while with others (even different portions of the same bag), gentle brewing yields 4-5 very nice, floral, tasty cups. I now use water that hits the leaves at 180, and brew just long enough for the floral notes to waft over to me; decant quickly and enjoy about 5 pours. Consistency is an issue but comparing with the cost of brand-name coffee shops this is a bargain, and soooo much tastier.

UPDATE:
Too inconsistent. Better luck with some Dong Dings from Aura, Adagio and even TenRen from the local Asian grocer. It's too bad, because sometimes this stuff is great.

While Malden Tea's customer service is Excellent, it's unfortunate that the quality of their product is not..
Purchasing tea should not be, as Forest Gump's mama would say, 'like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get'. After multiple purchases of Malden's Formosa Jade Oolong, that seems to be the case..

½ lb bag #1 was a very good Jade oolong tea. It had the typical floral aroma and flavor of a lightly oxidized oolong tea.

½ lb bag #2 started out good with the familiar floral aroma and flavor, but approximately 3/8 through the bag, the flavor was gone. It wasn't a subtle difference either, it was drastic. The infused tea kinda tasted like grass clippings that had been baking in the sun for months, extremely bland and blechh..

I sent an email to Malden explaining it and within hours they refunded the purchase price. Due to their excellent customer service, I decided to place another order and ordered 1lb. A couple of days later two ½ lb bags arrived.

½ lb bag #3 was excellent tea..

½ lb bag #4 is Terrible.. I've tried using leaves from different depths of the bag and it's all the same, completely flavorless.. This order had been placed on April 27 and received 3 days later. Bag 4 was cut open on May 9, so there's no way the unopened bag of tea could go stale in approximately 9 days..

It is important to know, that the pearls must be given room to open into their leaves, so take care not to put too much into your tea bell/infuser. I use a strainer instead. This tea is meant for multiple infusions, thereby making it cost effective as well as delicious. I highly recommend this tea. It also arrived immediately.
