Product Description

This is a short guide to Maldives travel and general travel related information. The Republic of Maldives is an island nation in the Indian Ocean of more than three hundred thousand inhabitants. The primary industry of the country is tourism and their resorts include some of the most amazing experiences in the entire world. The guide:

* Has a list of Malidves resorts, including their web address
* References top Maldives travel related websites
* Written by ex-pats who lived in Maldives for over a year
* Help from native Maldivians to ensure 100% accuracy at time of publishing

I wrote this short intro to Maldives after a year and a half of living in Maldives so I hope that you benefit from my experiences. Find out what to do with kids or what to look for in your vacation of a lifetime to the Maldive Islands. The resorts included in this guide are only those we personally visited during our time in Maldives, as a result, are far more insightful than a second or third hand account.

More About the Author

For those who are curious to know more about me, my perspectives and background, here are some select highlights.
I was born in Maldives to Mohammed Waheed Hassan and Ilham Hussain. My father has taught me a lot over the years about politics and people, he is currently the President of our country. My mother is director of Wizco, she founded the Maldives Autism Association and has many other commitments. She's taught me more about business and family than anyone else.

When I was five I moved here to the States while my dad got his Ph.d. at Stanford. First we lived on campus, then we went to Michigan for a year and moved back to the bay area to live in San Carlos. My parents returned to Maldives when I was 11 leaving me here in the bay area with some wonderful friends; Doña and Henry. I developed a love for the arts from them and learnt independence and the value of truth.

At the age of 12 I went back to Maldives for a short three years. Those few years taught me a lot about injustice. I remember one night the police raided our house in the middle of the night. We jeered at them and teased them as they ransacked the whole house to find nothing. That night they arrested many of my uncles and took my father for questioning. I remember writing a letter to the president because I wasn't allowed to visit my uncles in Jail. The result was that I was permitted to accompany my grandma, mom and aunts on their next trip to the jail island. My feelings of victory for being able to have the rules changed for me soon turned to dismay at the conditions of the facility. During this time in my life I learned that some people treat others as mere players in a larger game and have little to no value for individual human life. A societal chess board of rational and irrational decisions made by people to manipulate situations to their desires. Dad soon found work in the United Nations and we moved away so that more family would not get hurt by politics.

In Tanzania I saw yet another life style and was able to see the vast distance between the haves and the have nots. I learnt the value of volunteering, that people can make a difference in the lives of others if they only take the time to act on their beliefs. On the couch in my living room I listened to countless conversations about policy, foreign aid, different projects and why they failed or succeeded. There I learnt about politics within a corporate structure, watched alliances form and the quiet manipulations and boisterous rejoicing of people who were ultimately trying to make a difference in the world the best way they knew how. Many times I was accused of having too much interest in "adult" conversation, but to me it was all too exciting to not pay attention.

I came back to the States and studied Architecture, Computer Science and Mathematics. Here I met my husband Jeremy and we started our adventure together, building a family, several business, and traveling to many new places including Montenegro, Nepal, Dubai, Thailand and more. Throughout my adventures, I have been amazed at the differences and similarities in our collective humanity, from the streets of Kathmandu to the skyscraper dotted landscape of mid town Manhattan, we're all human with passions, dreams and desires.

My many years here have grounded me in California, it's been a home to me for more years of my life than any other place I've lived. I'm currently hard at work on a series of projects, including more writing and more tech related things. In the past I have started nine businesses and sold two with my partner(s). At Asenyo our clients included Photobucket, SideStep, Kaboodle, Yahoo!, CostPlus World Market, Yahoo! And more. Recently after nine years I have decided to stop working on FunAdvice because ideas no matter how sound or numbers driven, are only ideas until they can be implemented. If you would like to learn more about what I am up to just visit my site widhadh.com or drop me a note.
Thanks for giving me your attention. If you have a few more moments, please write a review, so I can continue to learn. Thank you!
