Any R rated movie is about female nudity. Time for equal opportunity?

I agree. I'm sick of being constantly bombarded with exposed breasts in movies, while men complain on the rare occassion that there is another guy's rear in one out of a hundred or so films.

Kerigman says:
This isn't exactly a "rear" shot, though. We're talking about full monty hotel fight with his 300lb+ friend. Pure comedic delight.

I just watched Eastern Promises the other night. that had a pretty intense scene of Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn himself) killing a few guys in a steam room while completely naked. That was most definitely a hard scene to shoot knowing how vulnerable he was the whole time (accidents can happen, especially if you're naked in a knife fight).

i would argue that the female form (assuming young and inshape) is much more pleasing to the eye- or at least less disturbing than the male, especially the example shown here. i am speaking from the male perspective here, but, really, i don't think this sort of nudity should be spread into mainstream movies anymore than i think bea arthur or betty white should be naked (which is to say they shouldn't) in pictures.

Absolutely! It's total bs that the only male nudity in film which is extremely rare are not hot guys by any means. It's time for the hot men to show their stuff and give us women a show. A-list male celebs should show their junk for once! It's not right just the women are shown and not the men. Or the men are covered by shadows or just show their butt or some bs.

Every rated R movie now has female nudity, lots and all the women are attractive and/or really famous. Its completey unfair. There needs to be lots of male nudity in the upcoming films without female nudity and see how guys like to go to the movies and pay to see that because I know I am sick of seeing nude females.

I honestly think there shouldnt be nudity in film. Why can't you make a great movie without it? Or there should be equal amounts of nudity in the film. For every nude woman, there should be a nude man. But for a while, the men need to drop trou without there being a nude woman. Thanks!

I completely agree with you, but it's not a subject that people analyze honestly because they have merely excepted reality as it is. Why are women typically exposed but men not? What really happened during women's liberation because I'm not seeing the fruits.

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 6, 2009 12:56:41 AM PDT
I'd rather know why it's okay that everything can be shown, but we can never get any glimpse of a woman's vagina. I think the world would be better if everyone was ALWAYS naked.

And no more bush in movies, let's push this to the final frontier. We want labia shots, and we want them now!

I agree 100%! Most of you took the words right out of my mouth exactly. There is still alot of fighting
women have to do for equality. Why is woman nudity accepted and male nudity not? Why is it normalized for a woman to dress sexy and a man to be completely covered? It seems if you are an attractive well groomed man now days, other men call you gay. That is not fair. I am so jaded of the BS that woman are more beautiful. To a man this is probably true, but to most woman I talk to, they tend to find the male body much more attractive and beautiful! As it should be by nature's law (if you are heterosexual). Male genitalia is not ugly! It just has been embedded in our brains to respond that way. But why? That is ridiculous. I am not entertained by female nudity in the least. And it makes me feel like a piece of s%!t unworthy of equal entertainment when I have a movie night with my husband and all the movies we have rented all have sexy dressed woman and nude woman with absolutely no nude men. While he is entertained and pleasured, I sit there miserable. As if because I was not born a man, I am not allowed nor worthy of being sexually entertained. Especially in things such as a normal R rated movie. Or when visiting an office supply store recently seeing a magazine rack with men on the covers in business suits and one with a female with her shirt open showing her bra. What the h%!!? Is that how women are successful in business? Come on. This is getting out of control.
Is any of this equal or right? Of course not.

People need to start stepping up to the plate and start outwardly saying so. Even if it only starts within your own family or on a post like this. Fortunately, my husband is understanding and respectful and has no problem cutting out most R rated movies in our house simply for this reason. It's sad. So BRAVO to those of you who had enough guts to call out "Unfair. Unacceptable!" GOLD STARS for you all! - Keep stepping up!!:)

I am thankful that men have to start seeing naked men in movies. Women have endured seeing other women naked and as sex objects for years and years. Men are beautiful to women, the penis is fascinating and I am surely ready to see a bunch of naked men in mainstream movies. Take a bit of your own medicine, men. Whatever your problem--homophobia or insecurity. GET OVER it, as women have had to.

I can't believe I actually saw full out labia in a movie the other day on TV. Completely shaven vagina and all. This is a new thing. I can die a happy person.

In reply to an earlier post on Sep 4, 2010 8:23:02 PM PDT
I couldn't have said it better myself. Why must it always be the woman who is nude while the male does the scene fully clothed or under the sheets? Those hunky men need to drop those shorts now! You go, girl!

Hudson says:
OK folks, the issue of nudity in R-rated films is silly for a public forum. I just have something I need to ask you folks... Did you know there are movies you can rent/buy from your local, friendly adult video store that have completely equal amounts of nudity from both male and female "actors"? Well, maybe the store is more "seedy" than "friendly", but I think you get the point.

I was prompted to reply to this when I read the earlier comment from Kristy Lafferty: "As if because I was not born a man, I am not allowed nor worthy of being sexually entertained."

While many of these nude people in pornos may be repulsive, if you think equal-opportunity nudity is an important aspect of films, or if you are just like Kristy Lafferty and want to be "sexually entertained," then porno is really what you need. All the male nudity you can stand, Kristy. (And Kristy, on a side note - it doesn't take too much effort for a woman to be "sexually entertained". Just go to any public building and yell, "I NEED TO BE SEXUALLY ENTERTAINED!" and watch the men that line up to "entertain" you. And I don't even know what you look like. It doesn't matter.) As a man, I personally can't understand why ANYONE would want to endure watching male nudity in a film (unless it's comically hilarious, like Borat, or in some cases, to horrify, like "A Serbian Film"). It breaks down like this.... male genitalia is quite offensive-looking (to loosely quote Larry David) and the point of making nude scenes in a film is to make something "beautiful" or "pretty". Male genitalia is neither. Offensive, intrusive and gross, IMO.

Also, it is WELL documented that we, men, are WAY more interested in seeing chicks get nude in film than women are in seeing dudes get nude. I mean, that's what you chicks have led me to believe in my 30 years on this planet... that men are "pigs", right? Well, filmmakers like to satisfy people's desires. I'm saying, I've heard plenty of dudes yell "Take it off!" at films and concerts, but I've yet to hear any lady yell, "Pull it out!" at any such functions. Check it out ladies, the difference between men and women when it comes to sex organs is this: We (men) do A LOT of our thinking with our genitalia. We can't help it. It's in our DNA. It's kind of our version of the Reptilian brain. My point? I saw lots of men lining up to see Sharon Stone bare-all in "Basic Instinct" (should've been called "Basic In-stinks"; hollywood titillation at it's worst - Stone bares all for 1/8 of a second...I timed it), but I don't think women were lining up around the block to see Viggo Mortensen bare-all in "Eastern Promises."

Another thing to consider, silly as it is: Females share their form with everyone, everyday. Those mammary glands are in plain sight all the time, especially if you dress like most women do in the summer. FACE FACTS. Go out in public and check it out, or ladies can just look in the mirror. Or, better yet, go to a beach where women wear bathing suits. Clearly visible breasts all over the place. With these external glands that are located so close to your faces, there really isn't much left to the imagination. Since I'm being a complete pig here, let's admit something: Lots of women flaunt their breasts for multiple reasons. Face it ladies, we can see what you've got there. Men aren't flaunting their privates in this manner, in fact, any such attempt in public would be probably be considered indecent exposure.

Furthermore, it's not like these female actresses have guns pointed to their heads forcing them to take off their clothes. They know the power of the female form and it's inevitable power over man's money. Is it fair? No. But life's not fair. We live in the world we live in, where women ARE objectified, and in today's popular culture with female role models like Britney Spears, Kesha, Rihanna barely wearing any clothes at all ANY TIME, paired with the fact that there's a strip club raking in the dough on every street in the world, female celebrities have come to embrace this fact at the expense of objectifying their entire gender. They've made a viable market out of man's eagerness to see a nude woman that they can't normally see.

Also, no one's holding a gun to your head making you watch the nudity. If it bothers you so much, go ask for your money back without sitting through the whole film, the theater will normally refund you.

This is all beside the point though, b/c if your main concern in films is equal-opportunity nudity, then you don't need to be watching theatrical films. Watch a porn, get what you want and DESERVE. And ladies, if you are so concerned about how it's "always" females getting nude, rent a male homosexual porn. All the uni-gender nudity you can stand. We men have understood this concept for years and to prove it, I'll quote Bill Hicks, "the only thing more beautiful than a woman is 2 of them." I digress to a degree, b/c the point isn't that I love seeing nude women in movies. I am a male, so I DO briefly enjoy the right girl, but I'm much more interested in art and entertainment. Nude males qualify as neither, unless you are a single woman who can't get any action, of which I know none.

Now I await the well-deserved angry responses. Let's hear it! If you need me I'll be watching Showgirls and reading Hustler at the same time. The thing about Hustler is that they show male nudity though...quite a turn off for me. Oh yea, one last thing, any ladies need a date? I'm READILY available, as you may have already deduced. Okay, have fun with it...

So, why don't you turn off the movie and "entertain and pleasure" both your husband AND yourself? Eradicate the "misery" for yourself. That's what sex is for, not what movies are for. See my above post and rent a porn if being "pleasured" is what you need from a film.

Wow that was quite a rant. Someone has some women issues. But it doesn't matter. Male nudity is becoming more common in movies and television by the year. Deal with it.

Gold Symbol says:
I'm not trying to "generalize" here, but why do so many women find male nudity 'gross' ? if a man found female nudity 'gross' it would raise eye browes. WTF man? i swear a large portion of women would rather and id say PREFER to see naked women over men, cuz i don't see them being 'grossed out' when nude females are on stage. What's the big deal? If the guy is not grossly overweight, what's the big deal?

I personally think its immature for either sex to be 'grossed" out by nudity of either gender, so many people out there are conditioned to think men and the male body are " gross". Not all women are "beautiful" and not all men are 'gross' theres many "gross" females out there too.

The male form is a beauty of art really and needs more appreciation! This society has conditioned too many people to the point where people cant think for themselves, are insecure, and to the point where females aint even attracted to men anymore. This whole "lesbians are cool" trend dont help either! Grow up people! both men and women!

Another thing is.... male nudity is sadly not shown much and many people don't know how to react to it, so they "laugh" or say 'gross'

Men who work hard to keep in shape should be just as allowed if not more so than women to show off if they want to and not be "laughed at" and even men who aint in "perfect" shape should be allowed to too, god knows how many FAT, ugly women i see wearing stuff that they shoudn't even be looking at in the stores, let alone buying and wearing it!

I would have to say its not so much about women wanting pleasure from seeing men nude in film, its more that we want men to suffer through the same humiliation we do when we watch these films. While women have a pare of double d's shoved in their face in any r rated movie recently, how would you men feel having a nine incher shoved in yours for an hour? Its not about sexual gratification, its the point that women are publicly pute to shame as sex symbols and nothing else. Lose the female nudity, its not entertaining, and its not needed. Since when do we need to see ten womens breasts for a film to be either a comedy or a horror film?

I would suggest writing to the movie theaters, FCC, cable, and tv stations with your concern. I wrote complaints over 20 years ago, but the only response I got was "it's what the public wants to see." Well, I am the public and I don't want to see it. When I recently contacted my cable company to ask for options to the crapioca on t.v., I was told to turn the channel, or turn on "Parent Control." I explained that I should not have to turn the channel in the privacy of my own home. And I expressed that "Parent Control" should be changed to "Freedom of Choice" Options. So, I recently wrote to Cox Cable, the FCC, and my congressman regarding this very issue. If sexuality and nudity (predominately) female is accepted in the media, then I should be able to visit my friends, neighbors, family, and go to work naked and have sex (it's art, ...right?). I recommended that since the 'voyeurs' of this world who have their 1st ammendment rights to take over and force the rest of us to view their perverted material, then the rest of us should be allowed our choices. I suggested that since Facebook has options to delete certain material, then t.v. programs should allow us to delete certain material also. is a great place to shop for materials in movies and these ratings should be posted at every movie theater and Red Box. This should be standardized rating instead of the ineffective G, PG, PG-13, etc. rating system.
There is also ClearPlay which can be found on However, some of their ideas of editing may not be accurate, i.e., the movie "Airplane" did not mention female frontal nudity. Nor did it accurately describe the sex scene in the movie "Out of Africa" which was defined as 'simulated sex.' Is there simulated cursing, or simulated violence given as a rating?
Maybe this is worthy of putting on the ballot. Make sexual exploitation something you need to seek out, not something thrown at us. Oh, yea... we can start by taking all the stupid magazines off the grocery store check out counters.

Male nudity is much more prevalent. Just look at all the dong shown in close-up good lighting in these new comedies and especially on cable (spartacus and shameless). Ironically, all the women wear merkins and when rarely shown frontal are from a distance and in poor light with legs clamped shut. Even more amusing, the dudes in spartacus are shaved while the women aren't so I don't want to hear about any historical acuracy nonsense because the show is not historically acurate anyway. It is mainstream porn aimed at women and gay men. No hint of labia is allowed in Hollywood film. I dare a director to shoot the same giggle mortinsen eastern promises scene with an actress instead. And if one argues "go watch porn" I could say the same for the gratuitous male nudity. Actresses acting like normal people while nude would reveal a hint of the female anatomy so reasons to show things explicitly don't need to be written in. Instead directors come up with creative ways to show nothing of women except breasts. Ditch the merkin, let's get some equality.

I think it would be quite interesting to see how men would react if the tables were turned. What would happen if every time you sit down to watch a movie there were nude males in nearly ALL of them while showing only the rare bare female bottom. And not only are the men always the naked ones, but they are exceptionally attractive. More attractive and larger penises than the average man. Men point to the insecurities of women but how secure would they be in a world were they have large penises and huge muscles in all movies but only a bare female bottom here and there. Quite frankly, I'm sick to death of the inequality. And no, it has nothing to do with me wanting to see naked penises on film, it has everything to do with me wanting men to be bombarded with them the way women are bombarded with images of the nude female body that represents such a small percentage of what real women look like, every time we turn on the tv! How about if we HAVE to have this garbage infused into our daily "entertainment", we portray REAL women. (or we can portray men who are perfect in every way so you guys can see how it feels to be constantly made to feel as though you don't "measure up"---pun intended! Face it women, women's lib or not... It's still a mans world.
