Malem recommends using this item on at least 6 year olds, but our (quite a bit younger than 6) son was completely ready to stay dry at night, but just clearly had trouble waking up to go. I figured, if you can definitely see that your child is ready and willing, but just needs some extra help, why wait until 6 years old when the habit is much harder to break if there is a good and safe help device? We made it a fun and exciting experience with lots of encouragement, smiles and no pressure - just like regular potty training. We showed him how the device worked and explained what to do and of course, met him in his room immediately when we heard the alarm go off at night. Malem sends a good pamphlet with really good tips and advice on how to make it work best, so we basically followed what they said. Within 4 days he got up completely on his own without going a drop in his undies, then he had a couple of nights with small accidents and now he has gone 3 more days without going at all. This device WORKS and is 100% worth the money! I really have no clue why Malem recommends waiting until 6 years old since there are many children under 6 that have the capacity and desire, but just need the extra help, but I can only say that it definitely worked on my child and I would heartily recommend it for anyone!
** UPDATE: He is completely night trained and it took just a little over 1 week. He has been completely dry now for almost 2 weeks!

No better pee pee alarm,

Pros:
Ease of use Indestructible Highly sensitive Cons: Alarm assembly mounts with safety pin We have been using the alarm for about 5 weeks now and our 4 year old boy has noticeably improved his ability to hold his bladder throughout the night. Our son is extremely difficult to wake up and the first couple weeks he slept through the alarm, while I woke up. It was not until week 3 that he started waking up after the first few drops of urine. He probably would have been completely conditioned by now if I hadn't anticipated the nightly 02:00 am wake up alarm and spent a week getting him up before a bed wetting, thus potentially cheating him out of some of the training. (You just can't help but wanting to avoid changing sheets and PJs several times a night.) Finally on week 5 we are seeing so much improvement, that we're considering letting him sleep without it. The Malem alarm is priced comparably to the competition, however, it is clearly the best product in it's class. The alarm system is easy to use, cleans easily and is so durable that it survived being mistakenly put in the washing machine. The end piece that clips to his underwear is very intelligently designed, cleans/dries easily and fits comfortably. The product shipped with two sets of batteries and we are still on the first set. The only shortcoming, in my opinion, is that the alarm assembly fastens to clothing with a safety pin. While we have had no accidents with this pin, safety pins make me especially nervous when placed near the neck. I would give this product 5 stars if not for my perception of safety pins. Highly recommended.

My almost seven year old daughter has never had a dry night. Although her pediatrician reassured me that she would grow out of it and I never made her feel the least bit ashamed, I knew she still felt embarassed and frustrated that she needed a pull up at night. I had purchased a different alarm first that was impractical - you had to sew velcro pockets on her underwear and slip the alarm in the pocket. The pocket was uncomfortable and quickly started to come off in the wash. I found the Malem on Amazon and was immediately impressed by the simple and safe design. The alarm is piercing and woke us both up immediately. I helped her to the bathroom and to change her panties. I had her wear a pullup over the panties. (I don't know why people feel that changing the sheets are part of this - the alarm will work whether you use a pull up or not.) First two nights: woke up twice. Next two nights: woke up once. After that, dry every night. I don't understand how it works but I am thrilled.

The alarm is small and lightweight so it doesn't upset the child. The safety pin to attach it is cumbersome (because of the safety catch) which means taking extra time and care. The first few times it goes off are a learning process. Generally though it does exactly what is expected although it hasn't solved our problem yet! It is loud enough to wake me in the other room and my son has his hands over his ears by the time I get there!

Within two weeks of using this product, my 7 year old was sleeping through the night with dry pants in the morning. This product comes with clear and precise directions, plus it is easy to use.

My 6-year old son had had only two dry nights in his entire life, before we started in earnest to get him out of night diapers. We tried for a month to wake him up in the middle of the night, and it worked, but if we forgot, he would wet the bed. We got this alarm three weeks ago. After 5 days, he knew out to put it on by himself. He was "very wet" for the first 3 nights, then "slightly wet" or dry for a few days. He now has been dry for 12 out of the last 14 days. It's difficult to understand how it work, but it does work. He is delighted that he will be dry at night for his upcoming birthday in two weeks, and get a big boy bed to celebrate this achievement. I highly recommend this product.

The product arrived as ordered and on time. It's too early to tell how well it ultimately works. We've only been at it for just over two weeks. There is obviously some "placebo" effect because the alarm has only gone off about three times, but the number of wetting occurences has been cut in half. My daughter is sick of wearing it. I thought she figured it would solve her problem instantly and when it didn't, now she's cooperative but not excited about it.

I have read glowing reviews of this type of product and never believed any of them. I got a good price on this, so I decided to try it out. My son could not make it more than a couple of hours without wetting. The pull-ups were expensive, and were becoming less and less effective the older he got (he was 8 at the time). The first night there was a fascination with it, so I think that helped. FROM DAY ONE HE STOPPED WETTING THE BED! After about three weeks with no accidents, he did have a slight one, but the alarm woke him up immediately, and he was just barely damp. The next step was to try without pull-ups, and then finally without the alarm. His greatest pride that he was able to spend the night with a friend and not worry about embarrassing pull-ups or wetting the bed.My only caveat with this is that it can be triggered by sweating. It may take you a few tries to get it located in an area where it will be effective and you don't get false alarms because of sweating.

Broken after two weeks, won't cross ship replacement!,
This review is from: Malem Red Single Tone Bedwetting Alarm (Health and Beauty)
I'm torn. I've used this alarm with my son for about two weeks. We are making progress (three dry nights in a row). It's small, works well, and is effective.
And as of tonight, the buzzer doesn't work anymore. I tried new batteries, no good. I just sent mail to the bedwettingstore (the vendor) so we'll see how quickly they can get me a new one... It wasn't dropped and didn't get wet. No idea what the problem is. Since nobody else here seems to have reliability issues, it may just be bad luck. Hopefully customer service is good. If it is, I'll definitely come back and update this review. ---------------------- Ok, make that two stars. I talked to the bedwetting store. They won't cross ship a replacement, so I'm talking a week or more to send it back to them, have them replace it and send it back. Just when we were starting to make progress. This is an item you want to go for reliability on, I'd avoid this one. ------------------------ Update: I sent the unit in overnight mail last Tuesday. This Tuesday, I got a replacement. It seems to work so far. I can't complain about the service. Upgrading by another star to three.

This loud device failed to wake our child and did not help at all. It is expensive and a complete waste of our money as of course there is no return option or money back guarantee.
