We read the books, limited liquids but nothing worked. We decided to give the bed wetting alarm a shot because I had heard good things regarding alarms. My son is 7.5 yrs and we knew it was time to get serious about this. According to the product's manual it said it takes on average 10 to 11 weeks for success, but I'm happy to say after 4 weeks we had no more wet nights. This alarm is much more expensive then other alarms, but I bought this one because it vibrates and also beeps when the child starts to wet. In addition it's really easy to use. No sewing involved like in some of the cheaper versions. This one just clipped onto his underware and that was it. To make it even easier in the beginning when we first started we had our son clip the alarm to his underware and then put a "Goodnight" pull up over that so the only clean up was the underpants. It worked like a charm and it was well worth the money not only for us but of course for our son.

Our 9 year old had had perhaps a handful of dry nights in his life, so we were ready to try the alarm. First of all, the thing is really tiny, about half a pack of cards, so it really doesn't get in the way too much. The blue unit attaches to their pajama top with a big, well-protected safety pin, and that is attached to the detection part (which is a small clip about 1cm by 2cm), which clips into their underpants (easy for boys with Y-fronts, not sure what people do for girls).
I STRONGLY recommend buying the alarm with the book we bought at the same time - "Waking up Dry" by Howard Bennett. It explains what the real statistics on bedwetting are, the biology of urination, what your child is going through and how to be ready to use the alarm. The time the child spends doing their "homework" (nothing to it really, but will help them stick to the task and make it seem do-able). The book should be compulsory reading for all parents with a bed-wetting child, and its written so that it can be read easily (and understood) by children.
After a couple weeks getting ready, we finally tried the alarm. The combination of the vibration and alarm sound was VERY good at waking him up, and he's a heavy sleeper. The first thing this showed us was that he was typically peeing twice a night and sometimes 3 times!! We wondered how long it was going to take, because from my research bedwetters that age are typically only going once a night. However, within the first week he was already waking himself to go to the bathroom BEFORE the alarm went off. It only took a few nights before when it did go off, he was able to stop the pee so quickly that the sheets did not get wet at all, and he did 90% of the pee in the toilet. Halleluja!!! Its now 2 months later and he's not using the alarm, and we're almost 100% dry... Between the alarm and the book its the best $100 you'll ever spend on your child. Truly amazing.

My 7 year old daughter started using the Malem Alarm at the first of June and by mid July she hadn't wet the bed for about three weeks. I will say the first week was very tiresome for me to get up with her and change sheets about three times per night; however, after about three or four nights it slowed down dramatically. By about two weeks in she was shutting off the alarm, getting up to go to the restroom and changing her clothes all on her own. Just hang-in-there and this issue will be gone from your lives. Now she can spend the night with her younger cousins without the embarrassment of finding a pullup before they go to sleep. It's been great!

I bought this for my 11 year old son. The first time it went off he shot up three feet in the air out of a dead sleep! I have always had trouble waking him up to go in the middle of the night. One time he walked into the closet, that's what a heavy sleeper he is. For years we tried everything, all kinds of rewards and punishments. No drinking after 6pm. Going before bed, and waking him up in the middle of the night. Nothing helped. After years of people telling me he would grow out of it, including his doctor, I finaly got an alarm. It realy works! It reprograms the brain to wake up before you wet. We noticed a huge difference after two weeks. I think it's important to get the ultimate alarm because of the diffrent tones and vibrations and light. It's scary, just what they need to wake them up. Also, get the book Seven steps to nighttime dryness. It explains so much. I made my son read it to. I feel so bad. I should have gotten this a long time ago, but my son had to suffer because I'm so cheep. Don't make the same mistake with your kid.

After doing a lot of my own research, I bought a Malem bedwetting alarm for my 5-1/2 year old son, who was simply sleeping too deeply to wake up if he wet the bed at night. This was something he wanted--he didn't want to wear pullups anymore. Within 2-3 weeks he was having several dry nights and after about 6 weeks, he went 14 nights in a row without wetting--SUCCESS! We combined the use of the alarm with some of the great ideas in the book, Seven Steps to Nighttime Dryness: A Practical Guide for Parents of Children with Bedwetting by Renee Mercer. A year or two later, when my daughter expressed interest in staying dry at night, we began using the alarm with her. She was only four and a half, but it worked even faster. We started seeing dry nights in less than a week, and by the third week, she was completely dry every night. I simply can't recommend this product enough. I don't know why every pediatrician's office doesn't know about them and tell all of their patients about them!

My ten year old had never had even one dry night in his entire life. When my pediatrician recommeded this, I was amazed at the positive reviews on Amazon.com. I thought it was worth the try. I decided to give it 3 months before we gave up.

I slept on the floor next to his bed and helped him to the bathroom when the alarm went off for the first few weeks. (Turning off the alarm is a 2 step process---first you lift the lever on the clip that attaches to the underwear THEN you press the button). At first he was peeing right through the alarm going off and soaking his pants and pad underneath. He was just so out of it and didn't realize what in the heck was going on. Then it progressed to where his spot on his pants would be smaller before he stopped himself and went to the bathroom. After a while he was able to put the alarm on himself, turn it off himself, and take himself to the bathroom so I could sleep in my own bed and not worry about it at all. And then he would regress and wake up but have no idea how to turn the alarm off because it was like he was sleep walking. But like I said, I was going to give it 3 months!!!! It seemed like the alarm had stopped working for him.

3 months later he is cured. Dry all night with no alarm. Get this thing right now! Your child and their self confidence deserve it.

2 tips: When the alarm goes off, you must first lift the lever and then you can press the button to turn off the alarm. Otherwise the turn off button does not work.
Second, if your child is not responding to the alarm, sleep walking, not remembering what happened the next day, DO NOT GIVE UP! We had a few weeks of regression and times where I thought we might be the family that it wasn't going to work for. But we stuck with it and now he is cured. I would commit to 3 or 4 months. It is SO WORTH IT and the self confidence is priceless.

My son is 9 1/2 years old and was really down on himself about his bedwetting. The pediatrician kept telling us that he would grow out of it eventually and not to worry, but that's not an acceptable answer when your child asks you "Why can't I stay dry like the other kids". We tried a short-term medication that would allow him to go on sleepovers, but it didn't work for my son. We also did EVERYTHING else that we knew of: Good-Nites, restricting liquids, stickers & rewards, waking him up in the middle of the night - nothing worked. The cost of this alarm seemed like a small fortune at the time and my husband was very skeptical, but after using it, I can say it is the best money I have ever spent. It is much smaller than I expected, but it definitely woke my son and I up. I did sleep with my son during this time. He is usually disoriented when he wakes up and expecting him to unlatch the sensor and turn off the alarm (before it woke everyone else in the house) was expecting too much. The first 2 weeks were rough, with the alarm going off 1-2 times each night, changing clothes and sheets. By the third week, it went off 3-4 nights, but only 1 time per night. By the middle of the 4th week, he was dry (and I moved back into my own room!). It's now been 25 days, and counting, since he has had an accident and we are thrilled. He is also so proud of himself. Get this alarm! It truly does what it claims to do. The book by Bennett was helpful as well.

We bought this alarm for our 7 year old son. He's a very deep sleeper and has never been able to stay dry overnight. I was content to wait and let him outgrow bedwetting but it started to bother him when his 4 year old sister started asking why he still needed pull-ups. The manual says that it could take 10-13 weeks to work but I'm here to tell you it doesn't NECESSARILY take that long! My son had a dry night after 4 days!!!!It's been over two weeks now and he has been dry every night. We put pull-ups over his underwear to eliminate mid-night sheet changes at first but after the first week, no more pull-ups. After a second week of being dry we stopped putting the alarm on him. We are on day 5 of no alarm or pull-ups and he has stayed dry. I would not have believed it if I hadn't seen it myself, but this alarm really works. We didn't buy the books or use a behavior chart either because our son was motivated enough without them. Don't put off buying this alarm especially if you have an older bedwetter, they'll thank you!

We purchased this for our 13yo son. We have tried many things to stop bedwetting: medicine, getting him up at night, restricting liquids, but nothing seemed to matter. He was very discouraged and so were we when we continued to hear he will grow out of it. It has only been 10 weeks since our purchase and he has been dry for at least one month. I slept next to his bed for the first week or so just to make sure he would hear it and respond. We even skipped using it a few days because he didn't want anyone else visiting with us to know about it. This was just what he needed to be dry. We just wish we had heard about it earlier.

Words cannot describe how much our family loves this product! Especially my 10 year old daughter who wet the bed every night because she was such a heavy sleeper. I saw this alarm on the Today Show one morning and started asking about it at my local stores. To my surprise they are not available at any local pharmacy or store. I researched online and finally broke down and bought one. The cost of it I thought was high, especially if it did not work. My daughter was so excited to get it but I forgot to order it in pink and got blue. She got over that fast. She woke up about 3 times a night by the alarm (very sensitive to dampness, which is great!)and I was there to change her absorbent pad protector for the bed and she would change her clothes. It took a couple of weeks for her to reduce the times she had wet and then she just had very small episodes. After about 4 weeks she was dry every night and after 2 weeks of being dry we put the alarm in storage. She has not had a relapse yet! It has been 5 months now and she is so happy she can go on sleepovers. It was worth every penny, and more!
