Book Description

October 1, 1989 0803932375 978-0803932371
This volume is the first book in the field devoted to the abuse of boys. The authors focus on the male's socialization and victimization and the results of various forms of sexual abuse of male children. Although they do not claim that male children are at equal risk to female children, they do point out that male stereotyping can have specific, long-term consequences for the male victim. Breaking new ground by presenting a broader view of male sexual victimization, they introduce a new concept, the abuse of sexuality, to help explain many of the social and sexual problems exhibited by males. Finally, an explicit model for formulating a treatment plan which utilizes a systematic multi-remedial evaluation for both adult males and male childr

5.0 out of 5 stars A valuable resource for understanding sexually abused men, July 25, 2009
This review is from: Males at Risk: The Other Side of Child Sexual Abuse (Paperback)
Males at Risk is a first rate resource for therapists, for men who have been mistreated sexually in their family of origin , and for the general public. The authors are to be commended for their very detailed and subtle typology of different kinds of family sexual environments--from the ideal to the horrible, with many gradations in-between. This kind of intelligent discussion has been missing in the lay literature, making it look as if the only kind of family negative experiences which could have impacted men with low desire, erection disorders, premature ejaculation, and chronic pain disorders would be repeated experiences of overt, violent rape. Because of male socialization to be tough and to not complain, many men who have had different kinds of unhealthy sexual experiences in their family completely minimize the what happened to them.

This book will be a godsend to them, and to their therapists.

This review is from: Males at Risk: The Other Side of Child Sexual Abuse (Paperback)
This book gave me a lot of insight into the issue of male sexual misuse. This issues is hardly ever discussed as opposed to female sexual abuse. It has been a great learning tool in my learning of this problem. thank you
