Along with believable descriptions of English police work and some dry golf humor, Gregson offers touching subplots about Lambert's and Hook's family lives. Gregson's other procedural series, starring Percy Peach, features a more engaging copper hero, but Lambert and Hook are perfectly likable, and the series is recommended for its gritty realism and hard-to-solve mysteries.
