Classic Death metal,

This is everything i love about death metal. Two Shredding guitars, one providing a solid rhythem, and one going crazy with leads. A rock steady bass, Drums that pound like an army marching to war, and Barked vocals (none of this cookie monster grunts). This came out in the late 80s so if you are into bands like Possessed, Death, Morbid Angel, or Atheist, i would deffinatly recommend this. If you are new to death metal i'd first recommend the aforementioned bands. It is a shame that this band almost seems to have been forgotten.Bottomline: This is a solid Classic Death metal album and i will deffinatly be getting the rest of Pestilence's discography!

Pestilence originally released Malleus Maleficarum in 1988. If you're a fan of stuff such as early Sepultura (thrash era) or early Death, then this album could very well be what you're looking for. The style is heavy thrash with influences of early old school death metal. My favourite track is Chemo Therapy. The original album has aged well. Having said that, there are one or two reissues out there with remastered tracks (like the one I bought here).

I still consider this album thrash and they throw alot of technical lyrics at you..I didn't care for their album that followed since they went Death Metal. I think they are still together but I don't know the member line up. I do know the vocalist at least left for a while if not permenately. He was in a band called Asphix. I had it and it was OK. I recommend this album to anyone who loves the true thrash before death metal came along.
