We are going on a road trip from CO to Lake of the Ozarks in MO. I wanted a more secure way to haul the canoe 2k miles through Kansas winds. Received the brackets from Amazon yesterday and had them installed and canoe mounted in less than an hour. I have an Acura MDX with factory cross bars. I was worried about this fitting.

BEFORE I purchased the product, I put the canoe on top and measured the space available on either side of the canoe for the mounts to make sure it would work. The measurements were going to be tight, so I flipped a coin and bought the brackets. The description states that the mounts are 5" wide, but the clamp that bolts to the underside of the bracket is 1.5" wide and allows the bracket to hang over the Acura's crossbar mounts and inch or two. This saved my skin. There was very little wiggle room. BUT it works and it looks nice. The canoe is very secure. The straps that accompany the kit are of good quality.

I do not like a single line on the bow since it does not give good side-to-side control (even though the brackets provide fantastic side-to-side control--something I'll have to get used to), so I modified the ropes to attach triangle style to the inside of the hood.

This product--although probably overkill--gives me much more peace of mind hauling the canoe long distances with high winds.

This item was received and unpacked and found to contain only one bag of installation hardware when there is supposed to be two bags. I sent it back to Amazon who expedited the exchange. Unfortunately, the second item also contained only half the hardware. Rather than keep this process going indefinitely, I called the manufacturer who overnighted the missing hardware. Excellent response and service. The item installed easily and worked very well. My canoe was very secure. I did replace the hooks on the bow and stern tie-down lines with carabiners for a more positive closure.

Bought this product at the same time i bought the cross bars. Everything fit on my 2011 subaru forester great. When i bought my 17ft old towne canoe, i realized the brackets cant go wide enough for the canoe i just bought. Got kind of bummed and worries but i just flipped the brackets so they sit on the inside of the canoe which works just as good. Ive been canoeing every week and once the canoe is on top the rack, i try and rock the canoe but it sits pretty solid on there. They come with straps as well and i only use the green ones around the canoe and around the rack. The ropes, i dont even use for the front and back and my canoe is solid with just those straps on the middle. Im very happy with this product!

The feet to hold the canoe are great. The straps to go over the canoe are great. The product is well built and well planned. There are two reasons for the lack of five stars, the bow and stern lines were too short and they did not include ratchets to tighten the bow and stern lines like the Thule kit does. However if you want to carry your canoe on factory rails this kit is the best option out there.

This seems like a great product, however I've not been able to use it yet. There are two problems with the compatibility with my 2010 Subaru Outback factory rack.
1. With the carrier on, we cannot fit our extra wide canoe
2. The carrier brackets do not fit well onto the factory cross bars
I will be keeping the carrier though and purchasing the Yakima Landing Pad 12 so that I can put a Yakima rack on my car. This will make it wide enough for the canoe, and the bars will be compatible with the carrier. I've read many complaints about the Subaru factory cross bars. It is a really bad design.

We purchased this to use with our 2001 Subaru Outback that had factory racks. The canoe carrier brackets had the adaptability to fit our factory rack. It wasn't a perfect fit, but clamped on very tight and solid. I recommend this bracket set for anyone who needs a canoe bracket for a factory rack. The fit allows for much more variance than Thule or Yackama. It stays on tight and is an easy install.

I bought these because they seemed more versatile than others and I'd be able to loan them to other people with different racks. I would have been disappointed if I hadn't read other reviews about canoes that are very wide. I picked up a used canoe that was wider than the rack when set up as directed. When I turned the brackets around--so they were inside the canoe--they fit with room to spare. The system held the canoe very securely. The bow and stern tie-downs are a nice addition, though I wish they had the same type buckle or ratcheting straps that hold the canoe on top. All in all a great carrying experience and great price.

This product appears to be well made and really simplified our tie-down process on the Ford Expedition. We were having trouble with the canoe front end moving back and forth at highway speeds and the bow strap rubbing on the hood paint. This mount eliminated that movement. Like others, we have a wide canoe and had to swing the mounts 180 degrees and slide them out near the edge but now the canoe fits on there like a glove. Time will tell how it holds up but for now we are very happy with the product and have less stress when securing and driving on the highway.
