Biography

Canvey Island, Essex, was an unlikely birthplace for Britain's finest R&B band. Its bleak industrial skyline set against the cold waters of the Thames estuary, keeps it from inclusion in most holiday brochures, but in the 1960's it was home to teenage friends Lee Collinson, Chris White and John Sparkes.
The trio shared a strong interest in music, and with like minded friends, formed a skiffle band… Read more in Amazon's Dr. Feelgood Store

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of the Wilko era Feelgoods recordings..., March 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Malpractice (Audio CD)
My first introduction to the Feelgoods, and what an introduction! From the trilogy of all time classics - "Going Back Home", "Back In The Night" and "Riot In Cell Block No 9" - through to the lesser known but equally exhilarating "Rolling and Tumbling", "I Can Tell" and "Because You're Mine" (and five more of the same), this is prime, thumping and sinster British R&B. Brilleaux's harp playing and manic vocals, Wilko's riffing, Sparko and Figure's booming rhythm, I could go on forever about the virtues of this record. Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great music for the road, April 3, 2003
This review is from: Malpractice (Audio CD)
I love this album.

Great band, great album, great humour. Virtually every song on this is a keeper. Special mention goes to "Another man", "Don't let your daddy know", "I can tell", and the incomparable "Back in the night". If you try to single out the manic Wilko's guitar playing, you need to mention Lee Brilleaux's growling voice, and then there's the rhythm section...

5.0 out of 5 stars Manic, Great and Raw, June 12, 2005

I was very happy to get the CD when it came out because my LP was well played and I knew it is a CD worth having considering the primal joy it gave me...I say snap it up if it is around because the cover versions here all great and when you hear their originals like Another Man with it's riffing you will see why these were exciting times in rock.. This was an era I was glad to be around for. Comparison with early Stones is correct especially Rolling Stones Now and 12 x 5.
