THE ENGLISH BAND, November 28, 2005
This review is from: Malt & Barley Blues (Audio CD)
This is not a review of the album above but of the British version which has different songs,a different sleeve and a different opener "When I'm dead & gone" the biggest hit.Plus a different title The Capitol Years
Consisting of Tom McGuiness from Manfred Mann,Hughie Flint from various blues bands,Benny Gallagher and Graham Lyle, who were signed to Apple Publishing to write songs for Mary Hopkin and a newcomer from Tyneside in Dennis Coulson.
Gallagher & Lyle would become famous in their own right in the around 1974 when they had more hit singles than the band they were members of.
The idea was for a band to be in between the Beatles and the Band and Glyn Johns was signed to produce their albums, which amounted to about 3
Its easy going good time music which would later be called country rock
