Excellent introduction for the non-specialist, January 31, 2000
This review is from: Malta, An Archaeological Paradise (Paperback)
Malta has been inhabited for around six thousand years, and its archeological remains are very rich. It had a remarkable civilization by the fourth century B.C. during which large temples, regarded as the earliest free-standing structures in the world, were built, while during the long Roman domination (218 B.C. - A.D. 535) Malta had a flourishing economy. Professor Bonanno's slim book, with its splendid photographs by Mario Mintoff, includes a series of short but authoritative introductions to such topics as the stupendous underground Hal Saflieni Hypogeum, but the emphasis is on illustrations and pithy captions. This is a book I would certainly recommend to the non-specialist who has only a few days to explore Malta's archeological heritage.
