3.0 out of 5 stars Amateur production but funny August 14, 2013
Format:Amazon Instant Video
As the title of this review says, the production quality--video, sets, etc. was low, but if you have time on your hands this is good enough.

My experience with minor brand DVD companies (such as ALLIED VAUGHN) has been satisfactory, as I'm not interested in commentary, deleted scenes or other bonus features, that is, stuff these discs don't offer. Transfers are "best available source" and quality can vary from very good to only fair.

Despite the presence of acting heavyweights Louise Fletcher and Maria Schneider, MAMA DRACULA is absolutely stolen by the flamboyant brothers Wajnberg, Marc-Henri and Alexander. A web search reveals no bio on either, yet they appear to be twins. For sure these two gangly guys are consummate physical comedians, capable of performing a long series of mirror image moves. An example in the film is a wake-up sequence. The boys drag themselves out of separate beds, shuffle to duplicate sinks that face each other and perform a number of morning rituals in perfect synch. Another odd moment is their exaggerated tango together, in suits and capes. Again, Alex and Marc move as one in an elegant, but crazy dance.

MAMA DRACULA (France/Belgium-1980) is partly scripted by National Lampoon's Tony Hendra, which goes far in explaining its demented quality. The brothers and Mama speak in thick Lugosi-like accents, pronouncing every V as a W. These fey young bloodfiends operate a high fashion boutique in town that's called Vamp. Their victims, chosen for Mama's youth-restoring sanguinous baths, are snatched from Vamp's dressing rooms. In this sequence, we see several girls topless. The kicker is a child of about ten. Unafraid when approached by an obvious monster, she lifts her skirt to one of the brothers, revealing on her underpants a crucifix. This has no effect; he just smirks. Then the girl whirls around, shows her backside and on the seat of her undies is a Star of David.

3.0 out of 5 stars Some surprises February 21, 2013

Louise Fletcher in what promised to be a sexploitation flick? Not a whole lot of sex, Fletcher was fine and the twin brothers were fairly amusing. Still could have found something better to do for this time however.

3.0 out of 5 stars Another 5th generation bad copy of a good movie August 5, 2009
The image is red and blurred - has that copy of a copy of a copy look. Not worth the $10 for this dollar store product.

The movie itself is great fun, with elements of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Benny Hill. I was hoping to get an A quality print of this cult gem but was very disappointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Ugh! January 3, 2014

I really can't comment on the content of the movie because I watched so little of it. The quality of the film, however, was horrendous! I just gave up.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother March 9, 2013
Format:Amazon Instant Video
This is a pathetic film that merely wastes one's time. No plot, terrible acting, the cinematography is very poor and the sound is poor which means we are able to miss the weak dialogue. Obviously, I do not recommend.

1.0 out of 5 stars No Saving Qualities What-So-Ever May 27, 2014
Format:Amazon Instant Video
One of the very worst films I ever even watched part. Horrendous video coupled with very bad sound make this terrible picture even worse. Very simple and annoying characters acting out an uneven and strange story line. I understand what the movie was supposed to be about from the description but any semblance to continuity or anything close to coherent is totally lost in the actual film. It serves no real value as a film even resembling vampire movies. The characters for he most part are senseless and moronic in my opinion. I don't why this was ever released in any form. I understand why it was free but have no clue why anyone would watch it including myself. Combine that with horrific picture and sound appropriate to the quality of the alleged story and it is definitely one to avoid.
