If you like "Girlie Books", she writes for you! Funny northern Florida women, but just too hard to take.

Mama Gets Hitched is the third and funniest of the Mace Bauer Mystery series. It is a well-written page-turner that had me laughing out loud at the flamboyance of Mamas fifth marriage ceremony to shedding a tear at the tender moments between Mace and on-again (?) boyfriend/police detective Carlos.

Apparently, you only get married four or five times in your life, so Mama wants this one to be special. So, she is none to happy with a dead body showing up at the reception hall to steal her spotlight. It is up to Mace to solve the mystery before Mama's big day is ruined.

I have enjoyed every one of the Mama books, but this one has been my favorite. Sharp entwines humor with mystery and adds a thread of local Florida knowledge few people know about.

I LOVED this book and you will too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wedding from deepest south, July 3, 2010

Mama is getting married to Sal, he has some connections, you know, and she is having a traditional wedding with Southern belle costumes and all the frills. Her daughter is trying to cope with the idea of an orange Tara costume but she gets sick every time she thinks of it. Then all of a sudden she finds the caterer for the wedding dead in his kitchen. Now it is time for the daughter to find the killer before she or even Mama is arrested for the crime. Local law enforcement seems to think Mamma is caught up in everything going on. This delightful novel is a continuation of the Mama series and is a excellent addition.

Having read and reviewed the first two in the series, I am happy to say that I could say the exact same things about this one. Since it's been awhile since I read "Mama Rides Shotgun" I had forgotten how laugh-out-loud funny these books are, but I was quickly reminded (Chapter 1). And although I almost always figure out who the murderer is before the end of the book (even if I don't always know the why or how), in this case I can say I was actually fooled. Kudos to the author for that!!

Looking forward to "Mama Sees Stars"

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Read, January 22, 2011
This review is from: Mama Gets Hitched (A Mace Bauer Mystery) (Paperback)
Remember that old saying, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again"? In "Mama Gets Hitched", the latest in Deborah Sharp's Florida mystery series featuring Mace Bauer and her wacky family, Mama Roselee takes that saying literally. By getting married...again--for the--ahem--fifth time.

Hey, you know that other old saying, right..."fifth time's a charm"?

This time, Mama is marrying a Jersey guy and she wants to do it right--that is, Southern style. Think of an aging Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With the Wind, complete with hoopskirts, parasols, acres and acres of colored tulle and a catered affair to die for...literally. Because right before the nuptials are scheduled to take place in the VFW hall in the sleepy Florida town of Himmarshee, the caterer is found stabbed to death in the kitchen.

Turns out the caterer's interests went far beyond menu planning. And the list of favorite suspects in his murder consists mostly of the Yankee relatives of the groom-to-be.

Can Mace, with the help of her two sisters, Maddie and Marty and on-again/off-again policeman/boyfriend Carlos Martinez, figure out who really dunnit so Mama's big day isn't spoiled? I won't tell.

Check out "Mama Gets Hitched" and find out for yourself. You won't be disappointed.

Deborah Sharp has another hit with "Mama Gets Hitched"! If you like to laugh out loud this funny mystery is a must read! Mama and her daughters once again get themselves into some wild situations. As always, murder and mayhem are involved. I can't wait for Ms. Sharp's next book - they are all outstanding!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wedding Not To Be Missed, July 10, 2010
This review is from: Mama Gets Hitched (A Mace Bauer Mystery) (Paperback)
What a fun read. Mama is getting married and it has turned into the Ceremony of the Century. When the caterer is found dead in the kitchen by Mace, you know Mama's day will be more than just special. Mace and her sisters are determined to find the killer and the events that lead up to the wedding is worth reading this book. Again, what a great story and I can't wait to read "Mama Got Stars," the next book in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars mama series, December 28, 2011
The whole series is a delight. It's rare to find stories as sprightly and enjoyable as this author's creations. Saw her on NBC Today show and another of her marvelous tales is on the way. Yeah !!

5.0 out of 5 stars Southern Comfort in a Book!, November 18, 2010

What can you say about a woman who has everything and still wants more? When it comes to husbands, why not? The more, the merrier.

If that hussy movie star Liz Taylor can get married, what is it, nine times, then why is it a big deal when Mama gets hitched for only five? That's called equal opportunity. And it's a darn sight harder to find a suitable man in central Florida then, say, Hollywood.

I definitely look forward to reading more "Mama" sequels and discovering what clever author Deborah Sharp has in store for Mama's future husbands. Let's hear it for her smooth Southern style.

P.S. You can never have too many funny Florida books. Here's another:

5.0 out of 5 stars A new face of Florida, November 18, 2010
This review is from: Mama Gets Hitched (A Mace Bauer Mystery) (Paperback)
Mama Gets Hitched was given to me to read about a different side of Florida. After having lived here for the past 5 years, I had no idea there was such a Southern, country feel in the state. Sharp's description of Himarrsee, a middle-of-the-state town and it's citizens is both informative and hilarious. The story is immediately engaging and had me turning pages to learn more about Mama and the troubles she finds herself in during her wedding to New Jersey native Sal. The clash of the two families is classic and only part of the calamity that befalls Mama's Gone-With-the-Wind themed wedding. The body in the first chapter proves to be the attention-grabbing tale that no one wants told about their wedding.
Mama Gets Hitched is a fun read that has me planning a road-trip to central Florida in search of the bbq and butterscotch pie depicted in the book.
