Laugh-Out Loud Encouragement for Busy Moms,
By
This review is from: Mama Said There'd Be Days Like This: Refreshing Rest Stops for Moms on the Run (Hearts at Home Books) (Paperback)
Jenn Doucette is a mom in the trenches, who writes with wisdom and humor about all the "stuff" of mommyhood. I loved her stories and the honesty with which she shared her own struggles and weaknesses. As an avid journaler, I also liked the questions for reflection she included at the end of each chapter. Moms who need a dose of encouragement will thoroughly enjoy this book. I recommend it wholeheartedly!

A Refreshing Rest Stop,
By
This review is from: Mama Said There'd Be Days Like This: Refreshing Rest Stops for Moms on the Run (Hearts at Home Books) (Paperback)
I read Jenn's book after waiting anxiously to receive it. Her first book, The Velveteen Mommy, was so good I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one! What The Velveteen Mommy does for moms of little children, this one does for moms who have moved on to the next stage, which is definitely me. I am in that stage of running so much, I meet myself coming and going! My husband and I pass each other in the revolving door of our house-- and hope we can keep a marriage running in those stolen moments. Jenn addresses all of this with humor and hope that is a balm to every mom's soul. Check this book out if you need a heapin' helpin' of encouragment!

HILARIOUS LOOK AT REAL-LIFE MOMHOOD,
By
This review is from: Mama Said There'd Be Days Like This: Refreshing Rest Stops for Moms on the Run (Hearts at Home Books) (Paperback)
This book had me laughing throughout. Jenn Doucette is one funny lady, a gal who's not afraid to admit her quirks and foibles -- so that those of us who feel EXACTLY the same way can feel some relief. We're not alone! :)Sprinkled with a healthy dose of hard-earned wisdom, Doucette has the comedic rhythm that makes this book a joy to read. In fact, it can be downright embarrassing when you burst out laughing "HA HA HA! ME TOO!" in the doctor's office. (oops.) This would be a great pick-me-up gift for moms in the busy child-raising years. There seems to be no lack of books for moms-to-be and newborn moms -- as well as plenty of advice-giving parenting tomes. Doucette's book fills in the gap needed when we're feeling like we just need a girlfriend to say, "I'm with you. I'm tired, my car's a mess, but I love God, I love my kids, and I love being a mom!!" --Mom 2 Mom Connection

Encouraging and amusing support for moms...,
By
This review is from: Mama Said There'd Be Days Like This: Refreshing Rest Stops for Moms on the Run (Hearts at Home Books) (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book. About 75% of the time I could swear the author was talking about my kids. Also, rather than sounding like the "expert" all the time, the author speaks more "mom to mom," which makes the book feel more like peer support to help busy moms cope, than a book written to make you feel like you could do more stuff to be a good mom. Is that refreshing, or what?I liked how the author often used herself as an example and wasn't afraid to admit her flaws. It made her very approachable as a paperback mentor, and it made me want to keep reading the book. It is truly funny, witty, and downright silly at times. I have to say I also learned quite a bit from this book in addition to being encouraged. Her anecdotes will make you smile and her examples of her own flubbing up will make you want to keep on keeping one (while taking better care of yourself, of course.) I highly recommend this book for all moms whether they are at home full time or out in the paid workforce.

This is a great little book to tuck into your purse for sneaking in a few pages during carpool! Some pages are good for quiet reflection, others will make you laugh out loud. It's refreshing to spend time with a mom who really *gets* motherhood.

Refreshingly humorous!,
This review is from: Mama Said There'd Be Days Like This: Refreshing Rest Stops for Moms on the Run (Hearts at Home Books) (Paperback)
Jenn Doucette has the ability to turn every day life situations, which could be devastating, into humorous stops along the Mommy path. Each chapter drew me in more, and by the end, I was wishing it wouldn't end. Jenn inorporates her belief in Jesus Christ into her life and her storytelling, which gives the book substance, and gives the reader hope for their own situations. Great format with short sections, and discussion questions at the end of each chapter, which although not necessary, would be fun to do with a friend or a group. "Tank Toppers" encourage you to act on what you've read. The short devotionals (Take a Brake) encourage you to personalize the chapter. It's perfect for busy Moms.

The chapters are brief and include small sections that are ideal for reading while waiting for school to let out or soccer practice to end. A quick but thoughtful read that is funny yet sincere, "Mama Said There'd Be Days Like This" will touch your heart and your funny bone.

Ironically Witty Look at Parenthood,
By
This review is from: Mama Said There'd Be Days Like This: Refreshing Rest Stops for Moms on the Run (Hearts at Home Books) (Paperback)
Jenn is my daughter-in-law and I am completely prejudiced.Having admitted to that, I must confess she continues to amaze me with her self-honesty as she frankly faces her faults and works on them - with such ironic wit! I'm sure that at her age I hadn't anywhere near the humility nor self-knowledge she displays. I'm very proud of her, our gentle Ben, and their three delightful children.

A LAUGH-OUT-LOUD BOOK!,

Jenn's storytelling in this book not only made me laugh out loud, but also helped me relax a bit about my own mommy goof-ups, misconceptions, expectations of being a mom, etc. I find myself going back to the book on those days when I need a good story to get me laughing again. Some of Jenn's antics remind me of Lucille Ball when she gets herself into some pretty interesting situations. My favorite story...the cupcake tower. Enjoy!

A book to pass on to friends and family and then read again,

This review is from: Mama Said There'd Be Days Like This: Refreshing Rest Stops for Moms on the Run (Hearts at Home Books) (Paperback)
Mama Said There'd Be Days Like This by Jenn Doucette is the perfect gift for a new mom, older mom, any mom! Jenn writes 12 short chapters about how to recharge your batteries, remember how important your kids are, reignite your marriage, and renew your relationship with God. All along the way she tells hilarious anecdotes and heart-warming stories. I finished the book Friday night and I already miss reading it. The chapters are brief enough to read while waiting to pick up the kids from school or practice, but they pack a powerful punch. She stresses the importance of being a mom while never losing your sense of humor or love for God. I'm passing this book on to my mom, my aunt, and my cousins, and I'll recommend it to everyone else.
