About the Author

Iris Feinberg is an avid cook whose kids frequently request that she cook at home on their birthdays and special events rather than dining out, preferring home-style communal meals to share with family and friends. Sundays on the deck are a special favorite, dining al fresco under the leafy green canopy bordered by the Chattahoochee River.

Iris is a busy mother of four who successfully runs two small businesses with a focus on creating empowering, home based opportunities for other women. She is a recognized expert in both teleworking and health care administration. An avid traveler, Iris is an active community volunteer who also squeezes in time for a bit of cycling, hiking, and photography. (And of course, lots of exercise so she can continue to eat!)

Iris lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband, kids and 2 dogs.

Lynn Epstein, a busy stepmom to three boys and grandmom to their sons, loves watching the magical moment at the table when a child eats some new vegetable and declares it to be the best, simply because he cooked it by himself. Her family and friends are drawn to gather around Lynn s table for the international flavor she brings to her cooking.

Lynn, a recent transplant from Portland, Oregon, has transformed her marketing and operational skills from the high tech and advertising worlds to her communal life. When she s not in the kitchen, you can find her energetically collaborating with clients, engaged as a community volunteer, or enjoying time with her family. Her favorite gathering is held every June at the Sand Castle Contest in Cannon Beach, Oregon where she and her nieces and nephew are annual participants.

Lynn and her husband live in Atlanta, Georgia and are thrilled that their two grandsons live there as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes me like this whole cooking thing, December 14, 2008
By Fungi (Cambridge, MA) - See all my reviews
Best "cookbook" EVER. I'm a 25-year-old guy, live a thousand miles away from my parents, and they gave me Mama Says as a gift. I love it.

So the recipes are printed on individual laminated cardboard circles, right? Turns out it's a great way to flip through options for dinner. My girlfriend and I like to take the box off the shelf (next to several cookbooks I haven't touched in who-knows-how-long-but-dinos-probably-roamed-the-earth) and flip through the dishes and choose what we're going to make that night. We're noshing our way through all of them.

If you like food that is delicious -- or at least know someone who does -- Mama Says is good way to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect gift for college student or new grad, December 17, 2008
By Charsmama (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews
This is a great gift for a young person just starting to cook on their own. Simple but appealing recipes list ingredients, instructions, and equipment needed, as well as prep time and quantity served. The photos give a novice cook a visual representation of how food should be presented, and many of the recipes share common ingredients -- such as spices -- so a budget-conscious college student doesn't have to break the bank to stock the pantry. I bought it as a stocking-stuffer, but you could combine it with spices, mixing bowl, whisk, etc. for an inexpensive birthday or housewarming present.
