Book Description

The good folks at Mt. Zion Baptist are doing their best to keep the church flowing smoothly while Pastor Phillips takes time off to be with his wife in her final days. Beatrice "Mama B" Jackson even opens her home so that the women's groups can continue to meet faithfully after some “rascal” stole the copper from the church’s air conditioning unit. With her semi-estranged granddaughter and great-grandson staying in the guest room, Mama B soon has a full house.

When the interim preacher and his wife start touting messages that don’t line up with the Bible, Mama B wonders how and if she can intervene without causing strife in the congregation or discouraging the young couple.

But Mama B can only take so much of this foolishness. Soon enough, Mama B will realize that there is much more at stake than she or anyone else at Mt. Zion ever imagined. And it’s time to speak.

Mama B - A Time to Speak is full of godly wisdom and humor that will make you take a deep breath after that last page and smile from the inside out. Fans of the classic "Miss Julia" will enjoy Mama B to the fullest!

You just have to love Mama B and her down-to-earth manner. A cute story full of fun, wit, and wisdom. Follow Mama B as she dishes out wisdom as well as takes it in. She's not a know-it-all but one who knows the One who does. And what a surprise ending. I promise, Mama B will have you laughing and thinking. You'll enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm Hooked! July 6, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Loved, loved, loved this novella. A great story told by a 72-year-old woman with a lot of spunk and a heart for God. Stimpson does a wonderful job with creating relateable characters, addressing real life issues from prosperity-only ministries to the mis-classification of secular-themed books as Christian fiction. I will be definitely reading the next book in the series. If you're looking for a laugh-out-loud read mixed with some good old fashion truth, Mama B is your woman!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wise Woman with Down-Home Humor! November 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Choosing my favorite thing about this book is just plain hard. I love Mama B.'s straight-forward opinions, and her humble way of keeping them to herself. I love her prayers - talking to the Lord as her good friend, for that He is. And I love the way she dotes on her family, but not so much that they can't stand on their own two feet. But I think the best thing about this book is the plot. The irreverent surroundings in which she finds herself and the way the cancerous attitudes grow toward an unexpected climax. Bravo!

3.0 out of 5 stars Must Read for Babes in Christ January 5, 2013
By AF
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Christian fiction is one category of literature that is consistently growing in sales year by year. But for me, the adage, "once you've read one, you've read them all" seems to apply. I've read a few of these books and they simply do not satisfy my reading palate. But I bought this book because I know the author and wanted to support her. And of course I cannot buy a book and not read it. So I cracked the spine on my Kindle and began reading and discovered I needed to approach this read as a "babe in Christ." So with my reading perspective in place, I not only finished the story but also enjoyed it. While I found the characters, phraseology (i.e., prayer closet), main plot and Scripture references geared to church-goers, church-folks, I also found pleasant surprises: a blatant message regarding prosperity preaching and mega-churches, stimulating sub-plots, and a focus on healthy living and eating. Yeah!!! Unfortunately, there were a number of typos in this novella which hindered my reading slightly but in the end, I enjoyed the story and would recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mama B A Time To Speak July 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Michelle Stimpson brought back memories of my own grandma with this book. She brought out the out spoken elderly woman with Christian love and understanding. She told her story without getting preachy.

I loved this book and plan to read more of her work.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Reminder
A great reminder of how easily Satan can convince us that it's okay to do certain things in the name of God, even if we left him out. What seems innocent, really isn't .
