About the Author

Dr. Donald Linzey received his Ph.D. in vertebrate zoology from Cornell University in 1966. His introduction to the natural history of the Smokies started when he worked in the park as a seasonal Park Ranger-Naturalist from 1963-65, at which time he started his scholarly research on the Park's mammals. Dr. Linzey is the author of four other books on vertebrates of the eastern United States. He is presently is Professor of Biology at Wytheville Community College in Wytheville, Virginia.
