5.0 out of 5 stars Great New York Show by the world's last Rock and Roll band, March 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mama's Got a Monkey Lamp (Audio CD)
Just saw these guys in New York. Timeout magazine callled them "the best live show they had seen in years" These guys are totally wild. Awesome stompin blues rock. White trash wrestlemania chainsaw freakshow. If you like old stones and zz top you will love this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Memphis on a Greasy Plate!, February 15, 1999
This review is from: Mama's Got a Monkey Lamp (Audio CD)
If you haven't seen and/or heard the brutally original Delta Queens then you have not fully lived. 1 part Stones "Let It Bleed" to "Sticky Fingers" era, 1 part vintage Aerosmith, 1 part Name-your-favorite-original-Black-blues-artist, 1 part ZZ Top (pre-MTV), and many, many parts deep fried greasy dirty, dirty boogie. In other words, Memphis on a plate! Rock and Roll at it's bad boy best - an endangered beast in the digital age. Best experienced at full volume. In over 100 listenings it has stayed fresh - how many albums make that cut?

"This album beats the hell out of any Jack Black rival effort. By far one of the liveliest efforts from a Memphis act in decades. If your gettin mugged on any dark street sick this beast of an album on them and they won't get you alive."

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh Hell Yes!!!, November 28, 2001
This review is from: Mama's Got a Monkey Lamp (Audio CD)
[edit]ing A!!! this album is a mix of punk and old school blues. The content is severly [edit]ed up. The lyrics are funny, sad, and at times pure drivle. I can really say that this is totally [edit]ing awesome. This gets da seal.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a very cool album, very raw, February 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mama's Got a Monkey Lamp (Audio CD)
I bought his CD and am going to see the band at Brownie's in NYC for the second time on 2-27. This is a weird group of guys, but the music is awesome. If you are sick of techno and Celine Dion and miss real rock and roll, buy this. There's alot of Stonesy feel with a rawer live sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars INCREDIBLE RECORD, BUY IT!, January 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mama's Got a Monkey Lamp (Audio CD)
Anyone with any love of raw old blues and the rage that made the sex pistols and the replacements great, has to buy this cd. It is real honest well written well played slop blues with nothing in the way. If you like Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main Street, Nevermind The Bullocks and other jacked up drunk music you have to get The Delta Queens. Great liner notes. Anyone know if they are true e-mail me and let me know. turn up a bottle of whiskey and turn up "Littleboy Walk", you will not be disappointed

5.0 out of 5 stars Southern rock meets Tennessee Williams, December 3, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Mama's Got a Monkey Lamp (Audio CD)
"Mama's Got a Monkey Lamp"sounds like the bastard child of Skynard and Tennessee Williams.

Play it loud for an instant party----but listen to the lyrics if you want to go to a strange part of the South, where someone with a monkey lamp is not considered all that strange.

The group's concept(cross-dressing,cat's eye glasses-wearing crones who play wall shaking blues/rock) works when you really listen to the lyrics and read the liner notes---the liner notes alone are worth the price of the CD. But even without that gimmick, the songs work.

A very strange, yet rockin' CD---not like anything you've heard lately.
