This movie is the best. Thalia is so great in this movie. Her accent just steals my heart. Paul Rodriquez is funny as usual. I recommend this to everyone, especially if you love Thalia!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars High Quality Movie, April 6, 2005
This review is from: Mambo Cafe [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a very cute movie. Thalia is beautifull in this and the cast is really good. It doesn't have a huge plot, but that of the cafe and their family and getting it to work one way or another. It's cute and funny. You should definitely sit back an relax for this movie

In 2002 I saw several big-budget films, which left me feeling disappointed and angry. Great entertainment indeed can be found in huge movies like Spiderman and Lord of Rings II; however, quality entertainment can also be found in small-budget movies like "Mambo Cafe"--a hidden treasure, which presents the U.S. Latin experience in a hilarious manner through comical characters and funny situations! This movie has several engaging subplots, but my favorite is the protagonist's (Thalia's) romantic struggle in a land which sometimes values materialism rather than love in its purest form. Some critics may say that the movie satirizes the Latin Community by presenting stock (cliche) characters, which ridicule Latin people; however, I am Latin, and never once did I feel insulted. On the contrary, I was laughing and smiling from beginning to end. It was hilarious to see Latin people in hyperbolic and highly-improbable situations and the comical manner in which the characters dealt with these conflicts. Thalia's accent might be distracting, but her problem with the language barrier is justified in the story line masterfully. I highly recommend this movie. If you liked "Real Women Have Curves", you will surely love "Mambo Cafe"! Bring a smile to your day! See this movie!

i have purchased this film and have seen it because of the mexican pop music diva thalia and i was happy the story line is good compared to other big budget hollywood movies that only get 1 star or 2 this is a independent low budget film and the star thalia had done this film because she would start from the bottom instead of the big budget screen, thats what she has sed that a true movie star must begin from the bottom on this film she has done a good job it is funny and entertaining so if you feel that you are tired of the big budget hollywood films and want to see a independent film with a great comedy story line wich independent film have i recomend this film and hope you enjoy it as much as i have i recomend the (DVD) format better it contains more features behind the seen's and interviews with the stars

I have always said that thalia is the best in the business and she just proved it in this wonderfully directed comedy about a girl who convinces her boyfriend that she is rich and that she is the one for him until her whole teatro falls apart and she realices that thats not really what she wants for herself and does the right thing in the end.

This is a cute, tongue in cheek little movie about a girl and her family and the amusing situation they get into. I enjoyed seeing my favorite people in it and enjoyed seeing the "goof" on the Soprano types. Pretty funny. One of my favorite scenes is when Talia's character is watching her parents have a romantic dance that makes her long for a relationship like her parents have.

I was glad to see that this movie is available through Amazon.com so that I can have it for the family comedy part of my video collection!
