Book Description

March 30, 2005
Just one taste of a luscious lime-kissed caipirinha, or a mint infused mojito, and you're transported to the tropical destination of your dreams. Magical, elegant, sexy, and above all, delicioso, Latin cocktails are meant to be relished. From Mexico to Argentina, the Latin American philosophy of life is apparent in how drinks are designed, served, and enjoyed. Mambo Mixers takes readers on a sumptuous sojourn south of the border, into the bars, homes, and parties of Latin Americans. Designed to be accessible to all, from the home cook to the experienced chef. Make-ahead tips are included so that hosts can join the party, too. The ingredients are not overwhelmingly numerous nor difficult to find, and substitutions are always suggested. Drinks include favourites like the margarita, pina colada, mojito, and caipirinha, as well as popular and new regional variations. Peruvian Skewered Beef, Venezuelan Corn Cakes with Mango Cilantro, Argentine-inspired Chimichurri Tostadas (crisp toasts topped with South American pesto), and the classic Tortilla Espanola (Spanish potato omelette served in tapas bars throughout Spain), represent just a sampling of the treats found in Mambo Mixers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what the thirsty needed!, June 7, 2005
This review is from: Mambo Mixers: Recipes for 50 Luscious Latin Cocktails and 20 Tantalizing Tapas (Hardcover)
Mambo Mixers is the ideal book in every sense for making a cocktail experience excel; and not just for Summer either. I have made practically all the drinks and tapas that Ms. Gargagliano suggests and they are as easy to make as they are delectable.

I would like to add that I have travelled far and wide throughout Latin America for the past 30 years; Ms. Gargagliano's selection for her book extracts the best of the region. Addtionally, the photography in Mambo Mixers is a true representation of what you will behold when you venture into this whirlwind of flavors. All this can be done with products found in any grocery store and the reward is at your reach within minutes. Thank you for bringing these great nectars and ambrosias to our attention!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Delight for the Eye and Palate, May 31, 2005
This review is from: Mambo Mixers: Recipes for 50 Luscious Latin Cocktails and 20 Tantalizing Tapas (Hardcover)
This wonderful little book is loaded with appetizing pictures and recipes which are perfect for a summer (or winter, fall, spring) cocktail hour. The author offers variations of champagne, martini, and sangria drinks along with easy to make snacks such as Brazilian cheese puffs, Peruvian skewered beef, and guacamole with nuts & grapes. Anyone would find a variety of things to try and enjoy. I loved every sip and bite.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicioso!, May 24, 2005
This review is from: Mambo Mixers: Recipes for 50 Luscious Latin Cocktails and 20 Tantalizing Tapas (Hardcover)
I love to entertain, but was running out of new ideas to keep my little parties fresh and interesting. I have found new life in Mambo Mixers!

This is not just a collection of Latin-inspired drinks---the book also includes recipes for easy tapas you can team up with those luscious cocktails! It's got the best of both worlds that will make my next fiesta complete (minus the huraches and tropical flowers ;-). Hooray for Hora de cócteles!

The book is even tantalizing in and of itself--the hot pink cover entices you to open it and be dazzled by scrumptious full color photos of the drinks and snacks---just take a look at that watermelon margarita on page 46! I was lucky enough to see the author on her book tour, and the enthusiasm she has for everything Latin is catching.

This book will make a great gift for all my friends too. Hmmm...party favor perhaps?!
