Dead Letters Read,
By
This review is from: The Mammoth Book of Best British Mysteries 6 (Paperback)
In this 2009 edition of Best British Mysteries (as edited by Maxim Jakubowski) you'll find 39 short stories that resound with imagination and style; some more so that others- but all worthy of entry into this year's collection. Murder mysteries and crime stories are taking on new shape in the genre with some fresh new voices in tones that might shock the more timid reader not use to finding swearing with their grisly murders most foul. But hey! murder and even faux murder is nasty business and it would be a crime if you didn't read this clever 524 page collection.
With such authors as Alexander McCall Smith, Colin Dexter, Ann Cleeves, Donna Mooere, and many others you'll easily find a voice or a style that will appeal to you. And maybe one or two that don't. But that's the value of short story collections- the hunt and the finding of new talent or talent otherwise not considered. The game's afoot but it's up to you to keep up.
