5.0 out of 5 stars High Quality Homages to Jules Verne
I've decided to treat myself to only one of these a week after reading the first 4 this weekend. Who knows if we'll ever get new Verne stories again by authors of this caliber. 2.0 out of 5 stars Just So-So
This was a fine idea that didn't pan out so well. The stories are all pulled from some part of Jules Verne's works, but for the most part are themselves boring, the exception being the ones about Captain Nemo. Spend your hard-earned money on something more worthy.

I've decided to treat myself to only one of these a week after reading the first 4 this weekend. Who knows if we'll ever get new Verne stories again by authors of this caliber. (The editorial review doesn't do justice to the contributors. Check the table of contents scan.) Each story deserves to be savored fully. The first four are each very different - one's even a parody of Paris in the 20th Century - reflecting the various strengths and tastes of the authors; but, at the same time, you feel that you are reading Verne himself somehow. Even the parody!

This Mammoth Book includes stories by a number of modern writers who use Verne's stories as a starting point for extrapolations of the future as the Victorians might have expected it to happen. I recommend it highly.
