Great 19th Century War Stories,
By Elizabeth McBrearty (Tucson, AZ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Mammoth Book of Sword and Honor (Mammoth Books) (Paperback)
This a great collection of 19th century war stories, beginning with the Napoleonic wars and going to the late 19th century. It contains stories not only from the British point of view, but also from the French. It introduced me to authors I'd never heard of before, and whom I'll have to follow up. Even Mark Twain is included with stories about the Civil War. A great read!

Mixed bag as far as quality of the short stories. Actually, I purchased this by mistake. It was listed as by Bernard Cornwell and some other guy. This was misleading since B.C. wrote only the introduction and none of the stories. I suppose I should have noticed this, but I looked under books by this writer and there it was. Anyway, some good, some not so. The stuff set in the Crimean War is probably the best. The quality seems to taper off toward the end, but for the price it was O.K.
