Mildly entertaining, the author is against the ET hypothesis feels UFOS are co-habitants of earth trying to trick us to think they they are from another planet, lame theory.

When I purchased this Mammoth Book series on UFOs, I had high expectations of quality. Alas, I was quite disappointed with the book. The author has not done her research into the many cases she writes about which is a shame. Lynn Pickett has many controversial ideas inside the alternative viewpoints which is a good thing. But this subject seems to have overwhelmed her.One of the problems is her treatment of the controversial Roswell crash. There are many good researchers on this subject she could of contacted to get the evidence to show the case has merit, but decides to call it a Mogul Weather Balloon. The other cases presented are all rehashes of the usual known cases in ufology with nothing new to add to them. There are much better books out there to present the case for UFOs out there one should just skip this book.

Packed with condensed information.
Just the right amount for a small size book. Very, very informative. I recommend it. Good material.

Large amount of material which reads fairly well but isnt what I expected. The author seems determined through out the book to doubt or debunk most of the UFO cases and isnt objective in her opinions. BUT then she presents many UFO cases as mistaken cases of ghosts, fairies and spirits and as if this explanation is the gospel. You cant have it both ways lady!!

You know, this book gave in details lots and lots of cases of ufo sightings and alien contact around the world. Some I have never heard before, I really like the reading..

The Mammoth Book of effluvia,

You might not consider it fair to write a review while I'm still on page 386, but this is after mammoth jumping, bypassing a lot of boring, hearsay-oriented tales. Yeah, someone's got to archive these tales, but why? There's a ton of books with similar content, all of them boring. I was impressed when I visited the library and saw a UFO title under Lynn's name, since I've read her other books and enjoyed what I read. But now she's dealing with a subject I got interested in back in 1957 and I'm quite knowledgeable about UFOs. This book is a disappointment 'cause Lynn behaves like a believer. It doesn't matter if it's hearsay, she buys it. This book is not like her previous books which seem to be the result of quite extensive research. This is one is not one of them. Yeah, she sort-of provides additional details to some old tales, but this book is not for skeptics. On top of this, regardless of what you read there isn't a single illustration or photo included. This bothered me 'cause when she talks about a case that provided photo/film/video there isn't a single frame shown to see what all the hoopla is about. Read it, but don't swear by it 'cause she quotes a lot of questionable sources. We all know that Travis Walton is a liar. We all know that Strieber is putting you on and getting rich at it. We all know that Hopkins, Jacobs, et al, are not qualified to mess with peoples' minds, but Lynn gives them airtime. And so it goes. If I had edited the book it might have been no more than 150/200 pages and even that might have included a lot of the crap one finds not only in this book but in almost every book written by non-qualified believers. I also would have corrected quite a few typos. Finally, this book is too "mammoth," making it slightly bigger would have produced a thinner, "better" book. Lynn, stick to the mysteries that you have dealt with in the past and leave UFOs to those who have a more open mind. Being a believer colors whatever you want to say.
