This is the best harness I've owned.
Caroline
On the other hand, it seemed well constructed; and the gear loops stuck out nicely, without being in the way.

To give an idea of my frame of reference, I have been learning to rock climb using a very old nylon strap harness with absolutely no padding. NOT comfortable for hanging in even for a short time. I did a lot of research before investing in my own harness because I'm very safety-conscious but also on a budget. I'm so glad I found this harness!!

Pros:
COMFORTABLE - I can hang in it or rappel without any parts of the harness pinching or digging in to my skin.
SECURE - It is well-made (like all Mammut products) and I expect it to last for many years with moderate use.
AFFORDABLE - This harness was listed at $29.99 when I placed my order. This is quite a bargain compared to most other harnesses I've seen, which average around 65 but can range into the hundreds.
ADJUSTABLE - Most newer harnesses have an adjustment range of about 3 inches in the waist and legs. My weight has fluctuated over the years and I was hoping to find a harness that will stay with me as I climb more as I expect to lose weight from the added exercise. This harness adjusts up to 5 inches in the waist according to the measurements on REI's website (copy/pasted below), but in practice I believe the range is actually even more adjustable than that.

Mammut unisex sport harness sizing by waist / leg loops:

Small: 26 - 30.5 in. (66 - 77.5cm) / 19.5 - 26 in. (49.5 - 66cm)
Medium: 28 - 33 in. (71 - 84cm) / 21 - 27.5 in. (53 - 67cm)
Large: 30.5 - 35.5 in. (77.5 - 90cm) / 22.5 - 29 in. (57 - 73.5cm)
X Large: 33 - 38 in. (84 - 96.5cm) / 24 - 30.5 in.(61 - 77.5cm)

Cons:
It's hard to come up with any negatives after my first few climbs in this harness. If I had to, I'd say that I prefer the loops (for holding gear) that I've been seeing on newer harnesses.

First off, at the current price of $30 it is a steal. My previous harnesses have been Mammut Focus and Petzl Corax. By far the Corax has been the most comfortable harness, followed by Focus and then the least comfortable being the current one I picked up, Mammut Mirage.

What I like about the harness:
- Easy to pack, since the loop gears aren't too stiff.
- Bulky, so a sense of perceived safety and the raised back support provides for comfort around your waist.

What I don't like:
- The leg loops bite in below the crotch. Couple of other folks who shared the harness complained about the same issue. Wasn't comfortable to hang in for long time. So probably perfect for gym and short climb usage, but not for long climbs.
- The gear loops make the gear slide forward over the front of your thighs. Also, I kept reaching all the way back to access gear, and realized that there is a four-five inch gap with no gear loop coverage. What a waste. Either my personal preference of how to rack gear on the harness, or Mammut truly believes the optimal usage of gear loops is such. But this is something I don't like much.

Otherwise, a nice looking, well built harness. Hence, three stars.

not the best harness, but very good. fits well, gets the job dont. the gear loops arent the greatest either, but theyre alright. they get the jobs done.

I got a small and I wear waist 30 pants, and the harness fits my waist (almost too big by an inch)

Great quality for the purpose I use it but no way is this XL, more like medium. I bought the XL hoping it was at least an actual M because other reviewers commented on small sizing. They weren't kidding. Otherwise OK, functional and nice price.

I got the X-Large harness. I found it to be plenty adjustable for my waist, but could not get the leg straps tight. Perhaps climbers have more muscular legs. I don't have a lot of experience wearing a harness (I've been rappeling a few times, and been on a zip line tour), but this didn't seem as comfortable as I'd hoped. After a day of wearing this for a back yard zip line, I was ready to get it off, and didn't want it on the next day. On the other hand, it seemed well constructed; and the gear loops stuck out nicely, without being in the way.

This was the first harness of my own. I've been using a Yates rescue harness with my fire dept. This harness is not meant for a 36" waist but isn't uncomfortable to hang in.

Switched to the Mammut Mirage from the BD Ozone harness.

Wanted a harness that is more padded and had more gear loops for the long hang-dog sessions. Slightly bulky and heavier but i thought it was worth it for the added comfort.

And... its cheap.

This will be used to go up the mast on a sailboat. The quality is good, the fit is fine and I will look forward to using it.
