This review is from: Mamonas Assassinas (Audio CD)
This CD has got to be the funniest work of stylistic parrody ever written. Unfortunately, since it was written mostly in Portuguese, the world outside Brazil cannot enjoy this great work of music that could have made Wierd Al Yankevic envious.

With obnoxious lyrics that extend the limits of humorous raunchiness, and musical arrangements that parrody artists from The Clash, to Rush, to Sepultura to various artists from Brazil, Mamonas Assassinas' only studio album is a parade of deliberate, self-aware stupidity that plays like a best-of collection. Among the targets of their parody are pathetic lovesongs about men whose girlfriends or wives have been unfaithful or have left them, songs about country folk who go to the big city and traditional music from Portugal.

The sad reality is that this is indeed a best-of collection: The whole band died in a tragic plane crash just a year after the release of this album. If the critics in Brazil called this work shallow and idiotic, the popularity of Mamonas, must certainly have annoyed them.
