Disappointing vs Live,

For anyone going to New Orleans, catch Mamou at Patout's on Bourbon Street - they are exciting to watch and incredibly talented. Unfortunately, their album comes up short on both counts. I'm not sure how they could capture their energy on an album, though. The album does provide a pretty good representation of Cajun style music, however, and appears to be their best to date. Maybe a video album would be a better way to go.

mamou is simply a bunch of fun-loving, talented musicians with a unique style and sound...their recordings are loose and spontaneous...it's a jam session...everyone has their instrument and they all play their songs and have fun...it's hard to find a group of guys like this....their album is fun to listen to...buy it if you want to hear some true music

Cajun Music from Bourbon Street,

I just got back to Nebraska from 4 day trip to New Awlins' and I saw this band at Patouts on Bourbon Street. My whole family party of eight just stopped in to get a beer and ended up sitting front row. We saw the band setting up ..and not knowing what to expect from these guys. When they kicked in..I was totally in awe...doing some great covers of"Jambalya"/"Louisiana Saturday Night"/ "Joel Blon"etc...I was completely floored watching this band of slide guitar/fiddle/washboard/triangle and lead vocalist/singer/frontman Steve LeFleur. Being from midwest all my 35 years..I was never exposed to "Cajun music" and this made me an instant convert! We were sitting front row...and had my whole family dancin' on that little space they would call a "dance floor"...definately a "Good time party band! Next day I picked this CD up at Tower Records in French Quarter. Popped into player once I got back to Omaha. I was surprised to find a bass player/drums/ some heavy riffing guitar/ accordian and diffrent vocalist on some of the tracks1 Not exactly same band or sound I heard few nigts ago on Bourbon street. Still..there are some great songs on here...my favorites which are sung by LeFleur. Check out "Darlene" ..the more rocker "My hearts a liar".. and the last track "The sun is shining". There are 14 tracks w/ quite a variety. So something for everyone's taste. I admit I was hoping for a more "acoustic" cd w/ that slide guitar like I saw at the show. I agree with prior review..they should consider a "LIVE" cd..w/ current band. LeFleur has a cool voice.... that Cajun/French dialect. He was definatley the "Boss" at the show. I did some history look-up on the band on the web...and he seems to be the "original" band member from 80's. Get the CD..you will enjoy it. I plan on getting the other release "Ugly Day" next. Thanks to MAMAOU..Im a cajun music lover.

Mamou is without doubt the hottest bar band in the French Quarter and New Orleans. The driving beat is without compare and in person you are guaranteed not to sit still. A must see and a must listen.
