The British Three's Company,
By

This review is from: Man About the House: Complete Series 1 and 2 (DVD)
In this Britcom, two female roomates, after a party, find a man in their bathtub. He needs a place to stay. The women want to help him, but they think their Landlord will not allow it. So they tell the Landlord the man is gay and he allows it. Sound familar? Dan Taffner, the man who also brought Benny Hill to America, adapted this show as Three's Company. Some aspects are different. For example Janet is the blonde and Crissy is the brunette. It is the other way around in threes company. Some things are the same, the landlord and wife are known as the Ropers. Being from Britian, Man about the house is more "juicer" than Three's Company, but nothing really dirty. If you are a Three's Company fan, or a fan of British comedy, I highly recomend this DVD.

Better Than Three's Company,
By Robin "I LOVE THE OLD STUFF" (Paterson, NJ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Man About the House: Complete Series 1 and 2 (DVD)
Since this is the original sitcom that Three's Company was based on, one would think it was less intense. But looking back this show is timeless.
American sitcoms tend to get stupid and silly as the years progress but British Sitcoms NEVER lose their appeal. Richard O'Sullivan portrays the sexy "Robin Tripp" always on the make against the stoic Chrissey played by Paula Wilcox and the demure "Jo" played by Sally Thomsett. Together they make an intersesting threesome and provide a unique look at life in London in the 1970's. Of course, the Ropers steal the whole show and Mr. Roper is a force to be reckoned with. Always trying to be forceful but never making his way past Mrs. Roper. We are always left wondering weather she will jump on Robin (or anyone else for that matter), Mildred is the true star of the show. Buy it, it's funny, cute, lots of inunendo and definitely worth the money.

Good DVD Transfer; classic Britcom,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Man About the House: Complete Series 1 and 2 (DVD)
So much has been written on the series content...it is classic 70's britcom, sexual inuendo plays innocently in dialog...bawdiness is more implied than realized in an amusing comedy that nudges and winks and still stays clean. The state of the DVD transfer was beyond my expectations of a 35 year old TV show. The images were bright and sharp and quite clean. I have purchased other DVD's of other series made later than MATH, and found several to be dim, or colours dull. Sound quality is very clear as well.
Overall I am content with the FremantleMedia/BCI Eclipse edition of the DVD of MATH series one and two and will happily purchase the rest of the series as they are released.
