5.0 out of 5 stars HOSS...., August 8, 2007
This review is from: A Man Called Hoss (Audio CD)
What gets me about this phase in Waylon's career is it's just not remembered much at all compared to the notorious rowdy 70's with RCA, in the "outlaw" period. This is the 3rd of 4 albums cut during his MCA days, well after the "Dukes" had been on air almost 7 years. Waylon was well in his mid-40's by this time, and had well settled down from the earlier years, even totally kicking a nasty cocaine habit. However, if there was an album of this entire period, that reminds of glimpses of the "old" days...THIS IS IT!! It is purely autobiographal about his life and times, but out of all the 80's albums he cut, THIS ONE really smokes!! It has the Thundering BASS of ole Waylon's signature sound, and even though as some say - it was slickly produced by MCA Nashville sessioneers - That particular quality is almost what adds to the heavy sound of the old days.
...except with sort of a spit-polish!!! If you liked the 70's Waylon, you'll dig this 80's gem. Plus it's the story of his legendary life, how could you go wrong!
