If you're in the market for crossover "Salsa" & funk, look no further. Joe's band fully merged both genres during the late 60s and throughout the 70s with vocalists who were comfortable in both Spanish and English all the while adding their own unique sound (especially the use of vibes) and funk to the musical mix which has been labeled "Salsa." Vocalists who sang with the band include the incomparable Jimmy Sabater and "Cheo" Feliciano, who later went on to forge a major musical career as a soloist. This compilation includes just about every major hit by the band and the sound appears to have been remastered from the original tapes giving even more depth and clarity to these wonderful "grooves." I highly recommend this set to any of you even vaguely familiar with Joe's music or who want to relive some of the "golden age" of salsa from the barrio.
