Movie was great, book is better!,

T T Flynn was a great writer. "Man From Laramie" is a good book that tells the story of Will Lockhart and his life in Coronado, New Mexico. His hunt for a gunrunner who ruined his younger brothers life, and quest for love with Barbara Kirby is a quintessential adventure/romance that is 'typical' only in that it pits man against man. Mr Flynn has a gift for characterization that pulls readers into his work.
I loved the novel, and the photo cover as well. Tim Lasiuta

It is a well written book and a very good story. I looked for more books by Flynn after reading this one. I place this in the same group as the Kelton books.

Just a great western. Good plot, well written. I didn't want to put it down. I've read 100 westerns and this was just very good.

To me a Western novel is Louis L'Amour--end of story. This may not be fair to other authors, but so be it. This book is NOT Louis L'Amour-ish. Not enought action, and at times the protagonist didn't stand up for himself. But--I liked this book quite a bit once I got into it. Lots of interesting characters who are well drawn. The plot was tight and credible. And there is some L'Amour stuff--main guy a real hero tough guy. The right girl marrying the wrong guy. Maybe the best compliment I can pay to this book is that I am going to suggest my 14-year-old son read it. Definately worth reading.

To date this year I've read sixteen western novels. I love them and read all I can from my favorite writers: Elmer Kelton, T.T. Flynn and Alan Lemay. This is Flynn's best. Will Lockhart comes to Coronado, New Mexico disguised as a teamster gathering salt with his crew and wagons. He is looking for the gun-runners who sold rifles to the Apaches who wiped out his younger brother's calvary column. When his wagons are burned and he is roped and dragged by the hot-tempered son of the local big-shot rancher, he plans on cutting down to size anyone that gets in his way. One of the best scenes is the fight between Will and the big-shot rancher's foreman. He beats the stuffing out of the foreman. The foreman has plans to get Will Lockhart and make sure the old man leaves the ranch to him, not the hot-headed son. Will is hired by a local lady rancher who is in competition for grazing land with the big-shot rancher (and secretly still loves him from their youth). When his son is killed by the foreman who blames it on Lockhart, Will has to prove his innocence and stop the sale of the rifles to the Apaches. The last few chapters are so intense I could not put the book down. I recommend it to anyone who likes to read westerns. It is far better than the James Stewart movie which was one great movie.
