5.0 out of 5 stars Joe Nichols talent is awesome!
This album is a great achievement in country music! His voice, his looks, his "real" country sound, make up the total package of perfection! I never get tired of listening to this album. He's also wonderful to see "live"! He has the audience participating and it was thoroughly enjoyable!
I cannot wait for his next album to be released. I also enjoy his first album,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent contemporary country for someone who doesn't care for contemporary country
Trust me, I am not a big fan of today's country music. If I do listen to country, I prefer classic country such as Johnny Cash or Willie Nelson (and I am young man). But I am a big Joe Nichols fan, mainly because I caught him on Austin City Limits. He has a wonderful voice, and there are some great songs on here. Life Don't Have to Mean Nothing At All gets me every time...

I cannot wait for his next album to be released. I also enjoy his first album, "Six of one, Half Dozen of Another", but his voice has matured very well since then. And, for me, I am glad he doesn't look like the traditional country singer with a cowboy hat (Although he does look fantastic wearing one, that gets so old and it's like their all "clones" instead of individuals.
Keep it coming Joe!

5.0 out of 5 stars Longtime fan of this "newcomer", July 23, 2002
This review is from: Man with a Memory (Audio CD)
Since I was a country DJ years ago and got a copy of Joe Nichols FIRST cd back in 1996, called "Joe Nichols", I've been a great fan of his. I've waited six long years for Joe to get signed to a major label, and I am not disappointed in this CD. I kind of hoped he might have included a couple of the great songs from his first CD, since no one really ever heard them on the radio as often and on as many stations as they should have been played on. His voice, the traditional feel of the music, and the subject matter are all perfect country and combine for one super listening experience. For six years I've enjoyed the first ten songs Joe Nichols has recorded, now I have 12 more to add to the rotation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best country cd of 2002!!, January 9, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Man with a Memory (Audio CD)
This is without a doubt THE best country cd of 2002, beating out Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, and Tim McGraw by a mile. Now you're probably saying no way. Well, i'm a huge fan of all three of the above artists and own all three of their new cds for 2002, but once i heard Joe Nichols cd Man With A Mission i knew who the winner was. Why? Simply because Joe's cd sounds like pure retro country. His cd is a shining example of what country music should sound like, and not the confusing "rock masquerading as country" tag that many of today's new country artists have. I mean let's be honest here: Although Emerson Drive and Shania Twain both put out fantastic cds this year that i really enjoyed, neither of those two cds are very country-sounding. Joe Nichols' voice and the production of the songs are pure country. Every track on the cd is a gem and a pure joy to listen to. I can't recommend this cd enough. I only wish i could rate it higher. This guy is gonna go places and be around for a long time, and is gonna give Alan Jackson a run for the money. Watch out, Alan, you've just been knocked down a notch. My only beef with Joe Nichols is his look. With his curly hair and clean-shaven face he looks more like he belongs in the group Creed, than singing country. I'd suggest growing some facial hair and sporting a cowboy hat.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best thing to happen to Country in a LONG TIME, May 25, 2003

The first time I heard his voice...I knew he had "it". "It" is that something special that comes along once in a while that makes you listen to the same song over and over again because it had that special something that stirred you. Joe Nichols not only "keeps it country"..he is going to play a major role in bringing it back. I am a long time fan of ALAN JACKSON..always have been, always will be. And when ALAN takes someone on the road and says...this is what I like..this guys is worth listening to...its just another afirmation to me. You go JOE..you keep doing what your doing. You're great on stage, you have the voice and the God given talent to take "IT" to the top.
A MUST HAVE CD FOR ANY TRUE COUNTRY FAN.

4.0 out of 5 stars Joe's Place, July 22, 2003
This review is from: Man with a Memory (Audio CD)
Joe Nichols returns with a hit album that has spawned a few hits for him, solidifying his position as a successful country artist in the music world. His breakthrough hit "The Impossible", which was dedicated to his father, hit close to home for many people and became a #1 hit. The second single, the honky tonk "Brokenheartsville" was a great choice, because it also hit #1, a fun breaking up song. His new single is "She Only Smokes When She Drinks". To me though, the best track is the closing title track, just an overall good song. This is country-country, none of that pop-country will be found here. Some songs are kind of laughable in terms of title and/or lyrical content like "Everything's A Thing", "Cool To Be A Fool" and "Life Don't Have To Mean Nothin' At All". Other highlights on the album include "Can't Hold A Halo To You", "You Ain't Heard Nothin' Yet" and "That Would Be Her". Check out this album from this very talented, and handsome man.

5.0 out of 5 stars Back to Good Country Music, November 13, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Man with a Memory (Audio CD)
Recently, I turned on the car radio and heard someone singing
"It's Cool to be a Fool".
Who was this??? Wow! They didn't announce it of course, and it drove me crazy so I hunted online and found it to be Joe Nichols.
Didn't know him. Now I do!!!

I haven't listened to country music for a while because I don't care for much of the current style, but here is a man with a mellow voice and timbre I can listen to all day, singing a mixture of wonderful songs.
Oh welcome, Joe Nichols! How nice to know someone can still bring this to us. More true country than I have heard in a long time.
You may not please everyone, but your CD has sure found a place in my heart and home.
Good luck to you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like a new spin on old Strait, January 14, 2003

I was VERY happy with Joe Nichols first release. His sound is like a youthful spin on George Strait. Just enough classic feel, with a new edge to satisfy all. From the touching 'The Impossible,' the painful yet satiracle 'Brokenheartsville,' and the down right humorous 'Life Don't Have To Mean Nothin At All,' you will be satisfied with this buy! Don't hesitate, you won't regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Devil drives a Coupe de Ville, April 6, 2008

Devil drives a Coupe de Ville was stuck in my head for almost a week.
It got so bad I had to actually google at what a coupe de ville is.

Without passing a judgment on the artistic merits, it is safe to say that
this (and companion 'Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off') are clearly going to be some of those rare records that people truly associate with, an American Classic in other words.
