5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Soundtrack of All Time, June 7, 2006
By
This review is from: Man in the Moon (Audio CD)
This movie really is a little jewel. Get the soundtrack. I found it as a cutout CD not too long after the movie came out, and I love that disc. It's all just the background music from the movie, wonderfully played by musicians David Grisman (mandolin), Dean Parks (guitar), Michael Fisher (percussion), James Newton Howard (piano), and Jay Rosen (violin). These are big time musicians, most of them legends in their own time. It is so incandencently beautiful you'll find listening to the music as personally and emotionally engaging as watching the film.

Nice, acoustic music, it's, as I said, the background music from the film--with titles like "First Kiss," "Dani Sees Court," and "End Titles." I guess you could call it Classical Music, but there's a modern flavor to it (doesn't sound like 19th century classical in style). It might remind you of your childhood in summer. It is music that touches your heart.

I didn't realize there were other fans of this movie out there who were affected as deeply as I was. Buy the movie, and hunt down the soundtrack. You'll be so glad you did.

I wasn't even watching this movie when it came on my TV one afternoon. The music was what drew me into the living room...then I couldn't stop watching!

"The Man In The Moon" is a wonderful "coming of age" movie set in rural Louisiana of a young girl's (played wonderfully by Reese Witherspoon) first romantic awakenings and the drama that ensures when her older sister falls in love in the very same boy with whom she has completely fallen head over heels in love in.

The music is as engaging emotional as the movie...beautiful lush string orchestrations with bits of rural instruments (guitar, mandolin, etc.)thrown in to anchor the country feel that the movie is set in.

My favorite is "First Kiss", the harp chords where what I heard that prodded me to sit down & watch the movie. I also enjoy "Daydreaming"

Gorgeous soundtrack & film...you won't be dissapppointed...listen/watch with someone special ;)

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great, July 6, 2009

The seller did an exellent job of getting the CD to me. It arrived shortly after I placed the order.

The disappointment was that the disc didn't include the lead song "Loving You" by Elvis Presley. I guess the estate wanted too much money for it. The other music on the album was good, but wasn't extneded into full cuts, just the bits and pieces that were in the movie.
