5.0 out of 5 stars Bought on a whim, October 31, 2003
This review is from: Man From Space (Audio CD)
Believe it or not, I was intrigued by the cover design for this CD and bought it on impulse. I took a risk... and was blown away. All 11 tracks are great. The versatility of this group is well worth the $13.99. Of course I have my favorites: the straight-ahead pop of "Under A Kiss", the gritty roadhouse rock n' roller "Queen Of The Rodeo" and, last but not least the sleepy acoustic closer, "Oceanview". These guys have really hit upon something. I can't wait to hear what's next! If rock radio is dying, Seismic is its shot in the arm.

5.0 out of 5 stars Downright catchy, August 18, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Man From Space (Audio CD)
Darren Buck's vocal presence on this, Seismic's debut album, is overpowering. A roaring but emotional voice, like Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson, he drives the intensity and passion of this fine record.

One of these tracks, Under A Kiss, wins the title of best song. A soaring rock anthem about lost love and innocence. It's powerful stuff. `Roses Never Die', the obligatory ballad, is great, too, and is destined for a video shot in a lighter-filled arena.

The musical delivery here is way above par and the songs are catchy. What sets it apart from the countless, increasingly faceless indie rock bands, however, is the strong songwriting and melodic intensity. These tunes are downright catchy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very sharp album, August 18, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Man From Space (Audio CD)
I know it can get dull reading a lot of fans' plugging their fave band of the moment, but this album really does deserve the praise. I haven't become bored of it and regard it as one of the best debut album I've heard in many years. Seismic offers enough of a variety of musical style to appeal to a wide base of fans who like everyone from Oasis to Matchbox 20. However, they stand out with the quality of their lyrics and the absence of cynicism or triviality in their delivery. The album's production is sharp, but doesn't quite capture the energy that these guys deliver live. If you liked Oasis' 'Morning Glory' then you will really appreciate this very tight, very sharp album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great debut!, August 18, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Man From Space (Audio CD)
This has got to be one of the most promising debut albums I've heard in years. Seismic have produced an album that combines great melodies together with insightful, catchy lyrics to make a simply outstanding album. The songs range from the rock 'n' roll style "Last Act of a Friend", "Fine Kinda Lover" and "Under A Kiss" to soft, melodic songs like "Roses Never Die", "Backbreaker" and "Ocean View". All the songs are excellent, there is not one weak song on the album. This is a rare find. A must buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Potential for greatness!, August 18, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Man From Space (Audio CD)
Seismic are a band with potential for greatness. This is clearly demonstrated by their debut, Man From Space. It is full of sing-a-long rocky anthems ('Under a Kiss', 'Top of the World', `Fine Kinda Lover') and has a few good emotional tracks (`Backbreaker', `Roses Never Die', 'Ocean View'). Lead singer Darren Buck has a powerful but very emotional voice - which is best heard on the last acoustic track (`Ocean View')...my favorite! These guys can certainly write one hell of a tune. I'm looking forward to hearing more!
